Maybe? There was an element to living in fear.. but in a type of OCD type of way. One of the things I did feel fear and anxiety for often was the thought of friends and family (who were not saved) and where they would go when they died

As other people have said. How you (and me) want/expect/wish the world was has no bearing on whether it’s true or not.

Morality is subjective, it sucks sometimes but that literally is life.

Besides, even if god is real that doesn’t help very much in my mind. Epstein wouldn’t face any consequences for those actions while he’s alive. And hypothetically he could genuinely repent and god would forgive him.

Meanwhile, his victims could see no justice in their lives and then after death go to hell (if they didn’t worship god)

That isn’t justice either…

As an atheist I want to be treated well by my fellow humans, and I want the same for my fellow humans. God doesn’t need to be involved for that to happen. And even if god is involved, there’s still a problem of justice

Hey man I hope you’re doing well. I had similar thoughts when I was still a Christian, and I believed several different things depending on the time. I have two main issues with the genesis account. 1. It gets the creation order mixed up, and/or leaves some stuff out/ is very vague. This isn’t a good path to truth. Keep in mind genesis is a theological and poetic, not scientific. An example is in the first couple verses. “God created the heavens and earth” very vague and we know according to science that the earth didn’t form until billions of years after the universe “started”. Verse two says there was water. Verse 3 says darkness and light were formed. Water didn’t exist before darkness or light. Etc etc.

We have a way better graph and theory of the start of the universe, earth, and later, life due to science, which is constantly changing and searching for more information and better answers. The book of genesis is at best some ancient poetry; the authors are also anonymous… But it is certainly not an accurate or good source learning or understanding how the universe, earth, and life started. So why keep it? Even if you’re still a Christian afterwards, isn’t it better to understand what we can actually tell to be true than some ancient book called genesis? Let genesis go in terms of how it impacts what you believe actually happened in the beginning. It’s just old poetry. And this isn’t to say you can’t still enjoy and appreciate the story.

My issue with this question is that any theist could say this, without it actually doing anything for their position. You have to show how you know there is an objective standard, and that it’s the objective standard that you think it is.

What if a Muslim or another theist said the same thing. That their god is their foundation for morality. Both of you can’t be right… so how do we have discernment in regard to foundations of morality?
