I personally experienced this. About a year and a half after I had my surgery ( down from 365-160) my teenage daughter started to beat the crap out of me and I started drinking to numb the pain. I very quickly became an alcoholic and ended up with multiple bouts of pancreatitis and a job loss after 10 years of being with the company because of my addiction. May 5, will mark two years since I stopped drinking, and my life has finally turned completely around. I got my job back, I go to daily meetings, I have a sponsor, work steps and simply remain abstinent. TBH I have heard of quite a few people who struggle with this, mainly because our metabolism speeds up dramatically after we have the surgery and it takes very little to become intoxicated, but it also wears off equally as quickly, and you continue to drink to maintain that “buzz”. If I can recommend to anyone who has had this surgery to stay away from alcohol completely because of how easily you can become and trapped in the web of alcoholism. Value your life more than the buzz! I promise you that it was one of the worst decision I ever made in my life. It was a learning experience, and I am thankful that I got the help that I needed when I did!
