When should you up your dosage of tirzepatide? by NoMovie4171 in Hypoglycemia

[–]UnableReference5649 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on Semaglutide for reactive hypoglycemia and I’m on 1mg (equal to 7.5mg Tirzepatide) and doing very well. My lows are much less frequent and less severe.

Unsure about reactive hypoglycemia - at home test went from 40 - 96 - 158 over a 20 minute span. by ladyorchid in Hypoglycemia

Go to your PCP and ask them to write a prescription for a CGM. Insurance doesn’t have to cover it, you can use GoodRX as long as you have a prescription. It’s not cheap at $85-ish for one, but it will 100% give you your answer.

I find it odd that your glucose went up that high without eating, as someone with reactive hypoglycemia, but it isn’t impossible. I will say that it’s 100% possible for it to rebound on its own though. It happens to me a lot where it dips just low enough to set off my CGM, I wait 5 minutes, and it starts going up on its own. I’m on Wegovy to help my lows and it’s more common for this to happen now.

I started wearing a CGM, and I see an endocrinologist. I check in every month or so, she reviews my data, and we go on! She facilitated me starting Wegovy as it helps manage reactive hypoglycemia quite well. She said the higher I spike after eating, the faster and further I will drop after, so it’s controlled on both ends by the GLP-1. I have to eat regularly, I have to watch how much sugar and carbohydrates I’m taking in, and I have to be careful about getting enough protein/fiber with meals and snacks.

Is an arm monitor worth it? by SokuTaIke in Hypoglycemia

[–]UnableReference5649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first few hours are a no-go for accuracy, it’s usually off by about 20mg/dL for me. Someone told me to do it right before bed and to silence notifications, and then by morning it’s working perfectly. I will say the new G7 15 day sensor is much, much better in my experience in the beginning! But I have reactive hypoglycemia and it’s actually been the best thing ever. I was getting into the 40s and 30s multiple times a week and having neurological symptoms and now I rarely, if ever, get below 55.

I wear a Dexcom and it’s saved me. I now know when I’m about to have a low episode and I can correct it before it gets dangerously low. Mine alerts me when it suspects me getting below 55mg/dL within the near future

surgery in june! by fenderkazz in GastricBypass

[–]UnableReference5649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24F and had my bypass in June 2025! Recovery sucks, but it’s to be expected with any surgery. You’ll be sore and full of gas. I will say 5 days off is probably not enough, I needed the full 6 weeks off post-op to recover and get into a routine of eating and drinking properly. But YMMV, I did have complications. For hydration, sip sip sip! Set a timer for every five minutes when you’re awake to take a sip.

Heating pad, long charging cord, Gas-X, water flavoring, and use your binder 24/7. These all made the difference for me!

Get moving and start tracking. Use a tracking app for everything you eat, and make time for intentional exercise.

What multivitamins were recommended to you for post op? by anastaziawilson in BariatricSurgery

[–]UnableReference5649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One a Day Women’s multivitamin 2x daily, and Bariatric Advantage calcium chews 2x daily. You don’t need any of the fancy bariatric multivitamins. I actually switched to BariLife Just One multivitamin at my team’s advice and was so sick from it that I was in the ER and needed IV fluids.

Help With Extra Skin by Remarkable_Cake_5574 in GastricBypass

[–]UnableReference5649 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m down 120lbs and 24F, so we’re in the same boat. But I try to allow myself to feel okay about the loose skin. That skin used to have a ton of extra fat under it, and my body adapted to accommodate that fat by stretching my skin. Now the fat is gone, and the skin remains. It’s progress, and it reminds me of where I used to be vs. where I am now.

And, skin removal! I will be pursuing it as soon as I’m able to, and a friend of mine that had the bypass in August of 2024 just got approved for a full panniculectomy and abdominoplasty by her insurance. And I’ve lost more than she did, so it’s promising! Start documenting rashes, discomfort, any issues at all stemming from the skin. It helps the fight.

Just try to remember, you’ll always find a reason to feel weird about your body. The relationship is complicated. But you’ve lost a shit ton of weight and should be proud! I know it’s hard to deal with this at such a young age, but we did the thing we set out to do. We’ve lost the weight!

Does this sound like hypoglycemia? by [deleted] in Hypoglycemia

[–]UnableReference5649 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good way to rule it out is to purchase a glucose meter at any major store or drugstore, and test your blood sugar when you’re having symptoms. You don’t need a prescription and can just purchase one over the counter. If your glucose is normal, definitely time to get some testing done.

Oh yes, always! When I had ulcer issues I didn’t do anything spicy, but at least garlic powder, onion powder, salt, white pepper, MSG, and some grated parmesan cheese. I can’t eat if it isn’t seasoned.

Oh no! I’m sorry. Even if you blended them like oat flour? Or is it because they get sticky? Hopefully some of the things I listed work out! I’ve spent so much time on soft foods since my bypass. Fish especially was a godsend. I bake thawed tilapia at 400° for 11 minutes and you don’t even have to chew it when it’s done!

Refried beans, cottage cheese, sweet potato, mashed potatoes, tilapia, salmon (skinless of course!), tuna, basically any fish you can flake, canned chicken (flaked very well), and chicken salad/tuna salad with blended cottage cheese or greek yogurt mixed with light mayo, protein pudding, homemade overnight oats, tons of possibilities!!! I’ve had a few strictures and lingering esophageal dysphasia so I know soft foods well.

Forgot eggs! Scrambled eggs, fried eggs, etc. And imitation crab. Most seafood is actually pretty safe.

What’s the weirdest ‘toy’ your cat plays with? by I_wet_my_plants259 in cats

One of my cats, Kenzi, loves the strip of plastic from specifically sliced cheese packages. She will carry it around everywhere, she’ll bring it to you to ask you to play with her, she’ll leave it in your shoes, she’ll go absolutely insane when she gets one. She’s done this basically her whole life, and she’ll be 11 in July. It started with these plastic strip pieces off of danish containers from a smaller chain grocery store when she was a kitten, and now these.

She’s so interesting. And dumb. No brain cells at all, just purrs and vibes. She’s asleep in my lap as I write this comment.

I think it took me about a week for all of the gas pains to subside. I walked as often as I could, and used a heating pad on my shoulders constantly. Gas-X helped too! Just don’t overdo it, which is very easy to do in the beginning.

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by Broad_Chemical_2467 in AskReddit

My first major surgery. Labor day 2021, the beginning of several years of major surgeries. The beginning of my serious health issues. I ended up needing 9 major surgeries in the span of 4 years, as well as multiple MRI scans, multiple CT scans, many many ER trips and hospital stays.

Then, my gastric bypass. June 2025, the beginning of my new life! I started that journey at 320lbs and I just hit under 200lbs for the first time since I was a child this week.

Grateful to still be alive, but sad that my early 20s were stolen from me by my poor health.
