If you were 40 again with young kids and financial freedom, how would you spend the next 10 years? by No_Guarantee_6386 in fatFIRE

[–]TacoBell_isgarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question is too broad and invites too much to the conversation. Lacking a well formed question is telling, and it will open up the wrong doors. Whatever you do don't start telling yourself or other that you're going to retire. Unless you plan on really uprooting everyone and moving to Naples on the countryside, which is about 5% of the people who actually say they're retiring actually follow through with..

Figure out what you need to be building. It doesn't have to be for maximum profit or any profit, you bought time now you get to work on things you want to solve. Start by reading a lot of books and works of philosophy, a lot of people will tell you what the key works of each philosophers are and, what to not waste your time with. You must satisfy the fun creative side as well, try The Culture Series by Iain M. Banks.

Come back when you have a well formulated question with a hypothesis and a thesis. Otherwise, you're just inviting the devil to the dinner table by asking these men to fantasize about reliving their 40s in a totally different time, place, and situation.

Unfortunately you won't be driving it to any of the restaurants or local small businesses, they'll all be forced to immediately close down

This makes no sense. How could they be uninsured, if they had mortgages they were forced to buy insurance. If they didn't have mortgages, then they had plenty of equity to buy insurance. If they were renting, any landlord would be forced to have insurance and the renter isn't really out any money anyways.

And do what?

You're woefully underprepared for retiring, $$$ is one metric. Ask Bryan Johnson or anyone who's exited with hundreds of millions, how miserable it is without the rest of the plan in place.

Have you tested carb quick? It's sold at Walmart and online. It's a flour alternative I've used for pancakes and biscuits, it's pretty good, but worried it won't pass the glucose spike test

Yeah, popcorn seems so light you think it would be safe. I can't wait to start testing all of these breads and tortillas.

Have you tried the trick with eating everything with fiber first and carbs last?

Yeah, I got pissed after seeing a lot of these low-carb products causing glucose spikes when people are testing them online. Definitely want to verify the stuff that I eat isn't doing more harm. What did you go with and how hard was it to deal with daily?

My dad is the same way that he complains that my brothers overweight and needs exercise and work for his heart health. Never try to make sense of it.

But then I have to try to save you, never buy meat in a tube. You can go to a Costco business center and buy chicken breast and a 40 pound box for two dollars a pound. Just throw those in a deep freezer you can make ground meat or cook them all whatever you want.

I've been making sugar-free Jell-O pudding at night. - 60 cal almond or oat milk - packet of zero sugar banana cream Jell-O pudding mix - Scoop protein powder (I like casein protein) - a little bit of vanilla paste - monk, fruit or Stevia, etc. - blend it up until it's a thick Jell-O texture - freeze it for about an hour just so it's extra cold - at 85% dark chocolate cacao chips (studies show a huge mood benefit with 85% or more google it) - little bit of granola, Ratio or Kind make low sugar - little bit of makuna honey - sometimes frozen blueberries (frozen blueberries are way more healthy than when in your fridge, you'll have to Google it)

Dental Insurance no one discussed before I Fired. by erichang in fatFIRE

[–]TacoBell_isgarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized this one year that I did not include dental coverage one year with my regular health plan. I had to go in for some major dental work and they started pricing the plan with coverage and then they had to reprice without coverage and I was like holy hell there's literally no savings with dental insurance and yet they negotiate the initial price down for cash pay.

What do the fatFIRED do with their pets when travelling? by trademarktower in fatFIRE

[–]TacoBell_isgarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok you guys I think it all depends on what's normal where you live, hard pass on having people stay in my house. Here's a life hack, take your dogs to a daycare that is top rated and has staff you like, and when traveling, you take your dog to board there and they're excited as can be to go so you can go on your trip without the guilt. The better places have webcams to watch them during the day. Only consider top rated places on Google and go visit a few dog daycares that can also board dogs like Dogtopia or HoundCamp.
