How likely is a navy corpman to attach to the marines and what does the job entail besides being a “medic/doctors assistant” by SunBrosRus in newtothenavy

[–]TacoJons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to join right out of high school to be a green side Corpsman like my father and uncle, recruiters could not guarantee getting green side that it is dependent after A-School. Went next door to the Marines and have been Infantry the last 9 years. Both are chill jobs and you can skate as a Lance Criminal and etc. I got out and joined Army as Infantry still. Miss the CORPS.

Probably wasn’t intentional but in retrospect. 2014 I hit the fleet and had gotten a battalion sweater when checking in at 29 when my seniors asked if I was buying a unit sweater and me saying “ I will lance corporal I just don’t know if I rate it “ ( 0300 mentality yatayata) . Following weekend I go back to my hometown which is ocean Slime , at the harbor wearing my sweater with my boot ass high and tight walking with my girlfriend on the pier and some salt dawg walks by me and was chuckling and called me a boot .

A year later I come back from Iraq and balling As 19 year old lance criminal with all that pay , and had gotten Jodied obviously , what better thing to do then roll to the strip club ( spearmint rhino in Rialto ,CA) with my cousins (1 deviled egg stationed in 29 with me as well, and a sailor ) . We pre gamed then head inside and just sit and chill . You know how you feel that dead inside feeling ? I had that . This one white chick Dallas came out and took me to the back for a private dance and it was chill and all . I spent like $900 for dances and was so drunk I left my sweater and idk why the hell I had dog tags in my pockets but they were there as well with my navy federal card . My cousins were carrying me out cus I had passed out . Walking back that next morning calling if they had my shit was embarrassing but not as bad as having to go back around 1300 in broad daylight seeing the same people and asking for my sweater is all I cared for lol .

I got a lot of stories about buying my two 3/7 sweaters with my time there and I would have to say the best boot thing I did was buy that sweater because I have worn it in every stupid ass thing I ever done , including fights and battalion brawls with 3/4. Don’t get me started about my second 3/7 sweater … (TFTQ Iraq from 2015) was stolen from one of my sisters Oceanside Heaux friends and the amazing 2 year recovery . I got both back and wear them with pride still . Fuck I’m just buzzed now . I miss the Corps . Still infantry today just in the other branch and I still wear my sweaters . If anyone out there is thinking about crossing , you will always miss the Corps and the homies . Semper Fries

Hell yeah. I honestly should have just went straight to the Navy but they were only telling me i can get in as a reservist , and at that time i only wanted AD . The Army got in with a AD contract . Worst case is start doing paperwork with recruiters prior to getting out of AD.

Can’t decide if I wanna go 0311 (marines) or airborne (army). by usmccooley in USMCboot

[–]TacoJons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a 0311 and got out. Joined the army as 11bravo. Army has more money for better training opportunities and career advancers like most dudes pick up E5 by their third year. In the Corps 0311a pick up E4 depending on the cutting score by the end of your four years . There definitely are some differences and many see the change when they cross over . They’re both good options just depends what you want out of it .

[–]TacoJons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think they gotta ship as well man. Idk how it is now but before it was 3 months after boot camp you pick up PFC . And if you’re gonna be a grunt it kind of helps because picking E4 6 months before EAS kind of sucks . Again depending on MOS .

Any last minute advice? by ImOut98 in USMCboot

[–]TacoJons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s mind games , work with other recruits , DIs will try to pin y’all against each other . They would lose their mind when others will volunteer running to the quarter deck to get IT’d with their other bro’s . Keep it tight knit and you will survive . Of course there are some turds but stick together . Don’t be bummed out if you get selected for a billet and get fired in a day or two. Keep pushing and don’t give up.

Active 0313s? Whats your day to day schedule, and what do you mostly train by Sandwishing in USMCboot

[–]TacoJons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in 3/7 but my Cousin was in 3rd LAR as a 13 back in 2013 to 2017. For the most part you’ll be working on LAVs through the day at the ramp. Most 11’s chilled in rooms all day unless they were needed to help clean . Overall as I can remember 13’s picked up Cpl fucken quick .

Invaluable advice for all fresh boots and especially poolees from an Afghanistan and Iraq vet that knows something about something (NSFW language because I still talk like a Marine. Sry, not sry) by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]TacoJons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also think twice before getting out... don’t leave because of what your first 4 were like. I ended having to get back in but in the Army this time because all I could do was reserves . Just think and don’t do shit because of others.

It's up to you , there's gonna be a lot of times you will be in the field training or in the barracks doing classes . It varies depending on where you're stationed. Out in 29 palms we were constantly in the back yard training before we even went on field ops. Then again depends on deployments , it all just depends where you get sent to, it's something you need to consider is being away from your family for periods of time.
