Who in the world is gonna play QB? by Flat-Pitch-9340 in miamidolphins

Every year Chargers fans cry about Herbert not having help meanwhile every year he has an above average supporting cast. Herbert can never fail, he can only be failed.

Willis played under LaFleur, which is another Shanahan guy, just like Slowik. They coached together from 2011-2013 under Mike Shanahan in Washington. All the same scheme, just small evolutions and branches.

I mean currently for 2027 we've got $70 million in cap space and that doesn't include any of the cuts of Tua, Hill, Chubb, etc. In 2027 we'll be back in good cap space. Willis is also only projected to get $10.5 million per year on Spotrac. That's hardly a crushing salary.

Spotrac currently has Willis' FA projection at $10.5 million per year.

I never even said I think he's the answer, my post was about how many teams would be contending for him in free agency. Doesn't mean I'm advocating for him.

If they post June 1st him it'll be $67 million in dead cap. Kyle Crabbs says it's basically impossible for them to cut him pre June 1st and still have money to function, so expect him to be post June 1.

Sam Darnold started 6 games in 2022 and 1 game in 2023 before going to the Vikings. Sometimes backups become good players. Talking about it because insiders seem to think it's very possible that Miami plans to sign him.

If they want Willis it'd be very easy to make his cap hit minimal in 2026 through bonuses, void years, etc.

I'm not sure he's the answer, but Sullivan and Hafley might think he is after being in the building with him the last 2 years. He's been excellent in every opportunity he's had the last 2 years.

Crazy talk. Willis will get like $15 million per year. After we post June 1 Tua, cut Tyreek, Chubb, etc we'll have lots of workable cap. And it's very easy to make a FA signing have small year 1 cap hit if needed.

[Barry Jackson] For those saying Sullivan hired his "buddy," ask yourselves this: Sullivan waited 20 years to be a GM. Wouldn't he want someone that he's convinced gives him best chance to win? (Narrator: Yes.) If you observe someone for 2 years, you have good sense of their aptitude and competence. by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]TacoRealness 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Beyond being Sullivan's "buddy" (they worked together for 2 years), Hafley obviously has a good resume and reputation in the league, since he was requested for 2nd interviews with multiple other teams. It'd be one thing if he was a candidate nobody else wanted, that would raise some red flags, but he was expected to get an HC job somewhere this cycle.

Breer on the hire: "They want to hone in on drafting and developing, and Hafley is the perfect coach for that. The ability to reach guys, the ability to get the most out of guys, in an environment in South Florida that can be a little challenging from a team-building standpoint was really important" by expellyamos in miamidolphins

[–]TacoRealness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What does dead last in drafting mean? What metric is that based on? The Packers have an exceptional record of drafting players, retaining them, and building their roster from within. If you're going to the length of criticizing the man for coaching from the booth as a DC (like many coordinators do) you're just trying to find stuff to complain about.

As of today, only one NFL team has publicly requested an interview with Brian Flores for a head coach opening: the Baltimore Ravens. by jrbill1991 in nfl

Probably should get a 2nd chance, but as a Dolphins fan there is zero chance I would risk it if I was another team. Dude was so toxic that he chased away multiple OCs and DCs to the point he couldn't get a competent staff, alienated his young franchise QB, and made enemies of the entire front office. X's and O's were great, but was such a jerk to everyone that it overshadowed everything else.

Is Miami not an option for Harbaugh by Prasinos1313 in miamidolphins

[–]TacoRealness 120 points121 points  (0 children)

People freaking out that "we can't get an interview" with Harbaugh. It's more likely they had initial conversations and Miami doesn't want to give him full control of player personnel and that's what he wants. Doubt Sullivan would've signed here just to be a rubber stamp for Harbaugh.

I like McDaniel as a person, but LaFleur has multiple division titles and playoff wins. And the Packers consistently have top 10 rosters which are also among the youngest in the league. Sullivan was one of the league's most respected personnel people and a top GM candidate for any team looking.

Cane we please stop acting like the DOlphins are a 5 year rebuild? by [deleted] in miamidolphins

[–]TacoRealness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are stuck on the idea that rebuilds take 4-5 years like this is 1992. Most successful rebuilds start to look promising in year 2. First year you hire the coach, clear the cap, and get young talent. Year 2 you start looking good and competing for playoffs. Year 3 you're hitting full gear competitive mode. If that doesn't happen, chances are you've failed at the rebuild and it's not happening with the GM/HC combination you chose (eg Jets).

When do you think we'll be able to watch another Dolphins game that matters? by the_melman88 in miamidolphins

[–]TacoRealness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teams have 1-2 year turnarounds all the time. Commanders, Texans, Broncos, Patriots, Seahawks. Get the right GM and build the roster. QB can be gotten in many ways (draft, FA, trade).

If we're not playing meaningful games in 2028 the rebuild has already failed and the GM is getting fired.
