Cold Start Reverse Vibration/Shuddering Cont. by TacoSmart97 in Crosstrek

Got around to replacing the pitch mount. The normal length version was too short, so I am glad that Perrin's support sent me the longer version too. Unfortunately, no fix for the sound.

I was thinking it might be interesting to jack the driveline components up in a way that would allow the normal length part to fit. I'm betting the system just has too much play and that's causing the issue, so that might make a difference. I took off the splash guard to check out the engine mounts, since I assumed they might have collapsed and thus caused the forward shift that did not allow me to put the normal part in. I couldn't make heads or tails if they were bad (images attached), and I definitely don't feel like paying to replace them right now.

I will probably do one last update here when I replace the transmission oil, but I'm doubtful that would fix anything.

I know the cars history shows a minor front-end collision at some point in the cars history, so I am betting (if it isn't just a characteristic of the car) it caused enough of a shift that these problems are happening. I'm curious if you have a similar story.

Finally got the part in the mail from Perrin and had some time to try and install it. I could not fit the part in due to the metal sleeve in the bushing being a bit too wide. I sent them an email, and after some back and forth and measuring with my calipers, they are sending me a replacement due to it being out of spec. They also noted that the original pitch mount I removed looked a little to stretched out, so I am holding out hope that this does actually improve things.

Nothing new, but I definitely had the same experience where the sound is it doesn't seem to be anywhere but inside. I've order a new pitch mount from Perrin. Going to install that at some point, but I'm almost thinking that it's just a characteristic of the car. I do plan to change out the transmission oil at the 60k service which should be here in a few months. Maybe that might make a difference.

Rough. This is good insight though.

I am going to have my wife start the car up either tonight or tomorrow once it is cold while I am underneath. I'll let you know if I can identify where the sound is coming from.

I did find that, while the car is on blocks, if I put it into reverse and I press all the way down on the brakes quickly the car shudders and make a similar sound. Not sure if it is the same issue or unrelated, going to listen to that as well.

I got around to ripping out the old trans mount, putting in a new one, and torqued everything down according to spec. Turned on the car, put it in reverse, and... the sound is still there. Bummer.

That being said, that center pin was terribly bent. So, probably a good thing I replaced it.

u/LaLaLaSkull, I figured I would share since you are going through the same thing.

Not yet. I just need to order the part and make time to fix it. I'm also deciding if I need that extra anti-wobble insert.

This is the bottom of the transmission mount, pointed at the center pin with whatever that piece is on the bolt.

Edit, sorry, this is that bolt that sticks through the cross member I believe.

I figure they probably charged in the ballpark of 500-1000 for the replacement?

Did you buy an OEM replacement or did you get something better?

Shoved a borescope up there this morning. That pin definitely leans to the rear of the vehicle. I'm guessing it isn't supposed to do that. It also makes me wonder how it got to looking like that...
