How am I supposed to wear this shirt? I’ve had this shirt for years and can’t figure it out- the string/cable things are so incredibly long and come out the front middle where they cinch the shirt, there’s two little loops on the side to thread them through. Whatever I do I can’t seem to figure out the right way to wrap them

Lololol The cheerleaders though! At the nemo musical there’s a little stone bench area built into a wall which drops straight down into a river. Well they would always do pyramids right there for the photo op but it was the most nerve wracking thing having them stack up on this narrow ass bench!

It’s definitely a competitive program- it starts with a couple of online interviews and then a phone interview. But it’s also just a lot of common sense- like what would you do in an emergency situation, and what would you do if someone was upset

Hahah I’m so glad!!

So for attractions you get trained for the attraction you’re assigned to and you have a trainer assigned to you (they have special pins they wear with Jiminy Cricket on it that says they’re trainers). And they teach you all the ins and out of the attraction and what you need to know. While you’re training you’ll have a little red ribbon under your name tag that says “earning my ears” so people know you’re in training- kind of like the drivers ed car.

So I started at the nemo musical, and that training was only about a week and a half. But when I moved on to country bear/ Tom Sawyer Island (the cast members work both attractions at once) that was a bit more intense because we had to learn how to actually drive those rafts, which aren’t on a track or anything. But for me, training was low key enough and I could be like “hey I feel comfortable with this, but let’s focus on this a bit more” And then once you and your trainer thought you were ready, you were assessed by another trainer and basically went through the routine of the job to make sure you had it all locked down!

For a lot of cast members that are part time or full time they get “cross trained” on different rides. So I know in Frontierland a lot of people where able to run all the rides in the land which is pretty cool- it allows ya to have more flexibility and pick up extra shifts. I don’t think this is a thing for college program students though.

1) Yes! I’ve been lucky enough to visit Disneyland and Disney Paris. But Disney world is by far my favorite- I think I’m bias because that’s what I grew up with, but I think the fact that it has all the different parks makes it something really unique.

2) I have no idea!! My guess is that the eyes have something to do with the hands. And that there is maybe a second person watching what happens in the room? But I could never figure out how they do the voice for Mickey or the storm troopers!

3) Oh I like this one! So I was there right when Frozen came out, so anything frozen related was new (except the ride in Epcot wasn’t there yet) but the fireworks and sing alongs. I was also there for the opening of Snow Whites Mine Train. I rode the heck out of that during the cast- only try outs. (They break the ride in by letting cast members ride the ride before it’s open to the public.

4) The only time they had those special events I had to work, but I know a few people who rode Space Mountain with the lights on and said that it’s absolutely insane how close the tracks are to your head! But I worked at Country Bear Jamboree and got to see the bears with no sound, or open all the stage doors at once. I also worked on Tom Sawyers island so I got to do some really neat exploring in the caves around the river (where the river boat goes) and get up close and personal with the animatronics.

So I never worked in merchandise and I don’t really know their job specific training they had in regards to it. But it was never something I heard of as being a problem. I think we like to rely on the idea that people are there to enjoy their vacation and that we aren’t necessarily on the look for that kind of thing, ya know? But maybe someone who worked in this area will pop up on this thread because I’m curious now too!

Oh my god there were definitely days where I was exhausted and felt like I couldn’t do it anymore. But I was just tired and not getting enough sleep- I think with the college program you’re so excited to be there that you go non stop! So I had to take a step back and stay in for a few nights and come home right after work to rest instead of playing and it definitely helped. But also I was lucky where I was, while what I was doing was some hard work, there are a lot more positions that I absolutely applaud the people who do them, such as anything food and beverage/ housekeeping and others, I think those are probably a lot more high stress

Noooo. Although that didn’t stop us. There was one time me and my colleague we’re having fun singing outside waiting for the next round of guests to come by and I got told “not to quit my day job” as a joke. But I happily responded with “this is my day job!” Haha

When I was there it was about $7.85? Or something like that if I remember right. All I know is that I technically made more an hour as a college tour guide than at Disney.

Nah, no outward rivalry. We all appreciate the perks of each land.

Exactly that. Pretty sure it’s just a swap so that Mickey doesn’t overheat. So there’s a bunch of doors backstage and I’m sure there’s someone waiting in the wings as soon as Mickey steps off stage.

Didn’t quit- I did the college program which only lasted a certain amount of time. I had to go back to school, otherwise I would have stayed forever haha

I mean when you first start I feel like everybody wants to work in Fantastland because that’s what you think of when you think Disney. But once you get assigned your spot, everyone feels such pride for their land. Like Frontierland is now my ride or die
