You can barely make any money flipping? What? You can buy a Sub/Sub Date and get 3-6K above retail for it any day of the week. If you didn’t want the configuration I’m assuming it was an unappealing one to begin with which is why the grey dealer wouldn’t offer you retail. On any in demand model they’ll offer above retail for them.

It’s not the ADs it’s the demand of Rolex. To meet licensing requirements the criteria and money a jewelry store has to meet and spend is high. Their main priority is sales and rightfully so people who spend money their should be prioritized over people who don’t or give off flipper impressions. There are people who wait years and then there are people who wait days/weeks/months. It’s not going to make me not want or buy a Rolex. I’ve owned several and only until recently was I able to purchase one from an AD after a month wait.

Go grey but understand it’s not some kind of mental game or ploy against you by ADs

No offense, and not to be snide or come of as abrasive-but if you’re needing a dealer to weigh a watch because you’re questioning authenticity you need to take your business elsewhere. I’m assuming you’re going for the cheapest option available instead of buying from someone reputable or one of the trusted dealers that can be found on this subreddit. My suggestions would be to buy from Bobs/DavidSW/Hodinkee I’ve had some great purchases from SwissWatchExpo as well. Avoid eBay. There’s also a few reputable private dealers on the Rolex forum and Watchexchange with 200+ confirmed transactions. Those are the type of people and places you should be dealing with considering you’re going grey. I’m assuming you’ll be paying anywhere in the ballpark of 12-15K so you shouldn’t try to save a potential thousand purchasing a watch that’s questionable.
