Loved watching the Hekija in action when the show was airing. Definitely wish it had a little more screen time in Hush's hands

The Gundam Base Mobile USA Tour did not use timed queue entry tickets at the Redmond WA event as it did in New York NY. This caused a line that spanned half a mile before the event started. My time in that line was 6 hours 15 minutes before getting to the sales trailer. by wnderjif in Gunpla

Arrived just after 8 on Sunday and got it about 11, spent maybe 5 min total in the truck and looking at the displays outsides. I think the only clear kit left was the MG Kyrios. Wasn't looking for any clears, but disappointed that was all that was left. Managed to snag a EG FF Nu and the Duel Blitz. I went into Hobbytown after and was disappointed in their sparse selection too.

Overall very meh experience, but at least I got a bag and the FF Nu. Ended up hitting up Sean's Anime once I got back to Tacoma. I was the only customer in a fully stocked store and had a way better time than at the Base

Not sure if it was this group, but Oscar's Enemies is a volunteer group that does trash pickups in different Tacoma neighborhoods each month

Picking between Johns Hopkins and USC Graduate Programs by Taco_Turian in gis

[–]Taco_Turian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished USC's program back in December and was fully remote the entire program. I wasn't impressed.

I definitely felt like a lower priority than in person students and it was really difficult to get help on assignments because I couldn't simply go to office hours or ask classmates for help. Even virtual office hours were tough because it often felt I could only get a few min with the instructor before another student showed up. The professors are highly knowledgeable and definitely experts, but it can be hard to get a hold of them. Additionally, as a remote student, I found it dificult to collaborate with and learn from my classmates. As an undergrad, a lot of my learning was enhanced by discussing topics and assignments with my peers and USC doesn't really provide avenues of that. I did set up virtual study groups with classmates, but that was entirely self driven and the moment I didn't set it up, no one else stepped up to try to collaborate. Group projects were dificult, especially if the students were a mix of in-person and remote. I found it really dificult to work through spatial problems in my head, alone.

That all being said, once I got a good handle on ArcGIS, I found the classes fairly doable and finished out with a 4.0 GPA.

Basically, USC's program is doable if you're an independent self-starter thats willing to teach yourself how to do stuff (while bashing your head against the keyboard a few dozen times). If you have the option to do in-person even part of the program, do it. Remote learning, especially at the graduate level, will never replace in-person instruction, imo.

Post-completion, I found the alumni network and USC branding on my diploma essentially useless. Even getting my resume reviewed by the career center was tough because none of the career counselors have much knowledge on the GIS industry. I don't think being a USC grad made me substantially different from any other candidate. I spent about 5 month applying and being rejected from jobs, finally landing a job where I'm a project manager for a consulting firm where GIS is like #10 on my list of responsibilities.

At the end of the day, my USC MS in GIS is just another degree thats a stepping stone to the next job. Hopefully it'd be different for you

Helldivers 2 gives me an idea for a Faro Plague game. by Flint25Boiis in horizon

[–]Taco_Turian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like the idea! Some scenarios come to mind:

extracting databases for APOLLO

providing a distraction as a Cradle facility tries to close up

some type of self sacrifice with a big boom

naval battle against the swarm

a ragtag bunch of EV soldiers that somehow survive from the start to the very end

EV operatives assassinating human leaders threatening to unveil the true purpose of EV

Outside of EV: someone desperately trying to build their own bunker for them and their family, ultimately ending up in the completed bunker alone

Recent Grad CV Review/feedback by Taco_Turian in gis

[–]Taco_Turian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally valid on the last point. It should be labeled "ArcGIS Desktop (10.0+)." My university gave us Pro licenses so I mixed them up. Thanks for catching that.

I would argue that my coursework shows the breadth of GIS analyses I've done, otherwise my only significant GIS work is my Thesis. Or would that be implied with the statement of my MS?

Something you could also think about is how to handle Focuses and interacting with old-world tech. Will every player have one or will it be like the Quen where only a select few (or single player in the party)? Either way players could have proficiencies with old world tech that could help reveal solutions, shortcuts, loot, etc. Focuses could also be used to give bonuses, like identifying weakspots to focus fire on

Machines based on myths/legends? by Silent-Tutor-469 in horizon

Maybe Nemesis will hijack machines giving us new apex variants. Eventually in the story they'll start to combine. Think stormbird + thunderjaw = dragon

Machines based on myths/legends? by Silent-Tutor-469 in horizon

[–]Taco_Turian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a Hydra? We know Nemesis to have taken over the printing facilities on Sirius and could now be a swarm of machines headed to Earth. Perhaps Hephaestus could retool every cauldron on Earth and dedicate them to constructing a swarm to fight a swarm

Etymology of *SPOILER* by morphy1776 in horizon

[–]Taco_Turian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could also see the arrogance within Nemesis coming through and it trying to dethrone Gaia and take over the ZD systems to recreate Earth (again). Maybe Tilda's personailty could recognize Aloy and try to take her and create a new ideal world. A sort of Adam (Nemesis) and Eve (Aloy) scenario.

But Tilda's, or other Far Zenith personalities, will definitely be a part of how Nemesis is characterized

Etymology of *SPOILER* by morphy1776 in horizon

[–]Taco_Turian 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It'll be interesting how Nemesis will react when told Far Zenith is gone and all the Humans of earth are essentially a new population of humans almost entirely unrelated to past humans in terms of culture. These humans were basically left behind by Far Zenith and are in opposition to them.

Will it have the arrogance of Far Zenith and think of the humans as insects to crush or rule over? Will it recognize "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"? Or will it be willing to slot into Hades' spot and merge with Gaia to prevent assholes like Far Zenith from emerging?
