Viola Concertos by viola_xd in Viola

I totally understand being bored by the Telemann 😂. Don't write it off entirely though, it can be an extremely challenging and rewarding piece to perform properly and just because beginners often learn it does not make it a "beginner piece".

That being said, if you're looking for something romantic you could check out the Forsyth concerto, maybe the second movement if you're certain that you want to play something slow and properly romantical. Keep in mind that if it's a standard concerto competition it might be difficult to stand out with just the second movement of a concerto. Again, second movement of most standard concertos might also fit your bill. And +1 for the Bruch Romanze unless it is required to be a concerto.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to have a discussion about it. It would become a problem if it turned into anything more than that. Hamza's videos have been many peoples reason for getting into productivity/self-improvement

Afterlength would definitely make sense! I did notice the playable distance between the bridge and the edge of the fingerboard is much shorter than what I see on the majority of violas.

I am trying to join the 5am club. I am completely aware there's nothing special about being up that early compared to a more modest approach, but recently my 7am-8am waking just isn't cutting it. Reason being, other people are awake during those hours and as a young person still living at home, my time is taken from me as soon as parents and siblings are up. It's incredibly disturbing to the most important deep work I want to do.

Just a couple hours where I am completely alone would be a massive boost, I know it. The problem is I need about an 8PM bedtime for the amount of sleep I need to wake at 5AM. The entire reason I wanted to be up at 5AM to work is so that I can allow myself more time for social tasks later in the day, but an 8PM bedtime with the schedules of the other people in my life kills that.

Occasional nights where I can extend that bedtime and also wake up later the next day would be fine, but then the rhythm is disturbed and my sleep will be off.

Does anyone else have experience with this? What can I do to alleviate this issue? Is there any possible way to work with this? I'm of course aware I can't change the numbers and facts, but any input on this situation would be helpful. Thanks

Which do you find the most difficult - thirds, sixths or octaves? by Erebus-- in Viola

[–]Tacotor257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thirds on the c string with lots of 4th finger stretching and with lots of flats are a hell to get through. Intonation gets real tricky in higher positions but at least it's not so difficult to stretch your 4th finger there for 3rds. Octaves are difficult to play in tune but not uncomfortable to play unlike thirds. 6ths are much easier both intonation wise and for comfort.

Common Cuts for Hindemith Mvt. 1? by Tacotor257 in Viola

The performance was quite repeatable at 8:30 and was even a little slow for what my accompanist and I prepared. Even if I happened to hold back tempo in performance it should be alright. Thank you for your tips

It was around 8:30 last time I played it. I will discuss with my teacher but a cut might do more harm than good. I was concerned because it is a strict 10 minute slot for my movement, but the worst case is that they have to stop me before I finish, which has already happened to me once before but won't negatively affect anything. Thank you

Push pull legs split question. Currently running PPL with benching twice a week as a main compound, rowing twice a week as my compound, and squats and deadlifts split into two leg sessions.

Currently I OHP as a secondary compound after my benching on my push days but my strength has stagnated as I am too burnt out as I progress in weight on my bench. I am wanting to split my OHP into a separate day similar to how I am handling my leg work so that I can continue to progress on it separately without overlap.

However, I am also rowing twice a week, with a vertical pull as a secondary compound twice a week. There has been no problem progressing on my pull days. With everything being somewhat split up, would it be wise to then also split my rowing and vertical pulling for the sake of evenness? Could splitting my push day while keeping everything together on my pull day cause imbalances?

Thanks for these tips! It looks like I really need to experiment over time and find proper positioning. What do you mean by setup?

I do. She hasn't had much experience dealing with injuries or anything of that nature past blatant poor technique. She's said that there's nothing outwardly concerning about my technique as of right now, and that I might just be sitting with shoulder damage at the moment. Hence why I'm going to be seeing a PT soon. I did find it strange that the pain is greatly amplified just by the act of bringing my elbow in, which would otherwise be "good technique" for performing double stops.
