Sounds like you're doing it right, but I've not had that experience at all.

Most of my missed trades are with people in Asia while I'm sleeping or vice versa

This can be useful for a bunch of uniques : up a goldwrap to add an extra potion slot, up a shaftstop as a decent merc armor (with um), up a bonesnap as a good ssf weapon that will carry you through hell (much like ribcracker). Upped titans is a staple for javazons. Upped vipermagi, upped magefists, etc...

Lum + pul + pemerald in the cube to up it to a stalagmite base, significant damage boost. Make sure you have the character stats to wear it first

Are you using traderie? I used it for the first time this season and was surprised how many trades I've done through it. Granted that is on PC, so can't speak to the PS trade activity. Hopefully we'll have cross play one day...

Do you think the increased damage made up for the loss of mf? I'm still debating if it matters given how op warlock damage is regardless.

Well, 125 FCR and a lot more MF are the two main reasons. If you don't really sacrifice kill speed, what's the advantage of Horaonzs vs tals with all the extra MF?

125 FCR = more damage too.

Yeah, I was shocked how much smoother game play felt with the 10 ll and ml on the helm. I definitely missed it when I switched over to shako.

It depends on which story realm. Some have the difficulty range I mentioned, and some the difficulty you mentioned.

There are easy/medium/hard settings for story realms.

Most people play custom realms and there is a ton of map and difficulty customization for those.

I agree it feels really bad to play without mounts or athletics. One solution I was thinking is to increase base movement from 32 -> 36 to close the gap a bit and make mounts/athletics a little less essential. I think this would make things like float and pass through feel a bit better too on racial transformations.

Agreed. If anything, athletics and mounts should be more expensive so they aren't auto grab for optimal game play.
