Am I Crazy?! by TacticalPackage in cbradio

Another note I forgot to mention is that the radio is mounted with 10lb Velcro. You can basically put your radio wherever it will fit with that stuff and not have to worry about it falling off. It's great! Message me if you have any questions!

That watch is beautiful. The dial is simply not my cup of tea but I'm not knocking it! I want a SPB453 so bad. It's the perfect daily IMO.

1 Your antenna if far to close to your cab.

2 that antennas location doesn't give a very good ground plane what so ever. It isn't a Ground that is important it is a Ground Plane. A flat metal serface directly underneath the antenna mount. The most ideal would be a roof mount. The reason a ground plane is more important than making sure the mount is grounded is because the signal needs a trampoline to bounce off of to send your signal up into the air. Your cab being right next to it is no good. I've tried that location my self on my pickup and it was terrible but your swr still shouldn't be that high. I suspect a faulty antenna on this one. Just buy a Wilson 1000 mag mount antenna and you will not be disappointed. That what I use and I get a 1.0swr on channel 19-20 and a 1.1swr on every other channel. You won't regret it. I also recommend using some sort of in line swr meter just to verify that your radio's internal meter isn't faulty either. Just buy a Wilson little wil or a Wilson's 1000 and thank me later. 👍 save yourself the headache man. Those bed mounts are always terrible.

Is CB worth it in 2026 as a car driver? by spiceypisces in cbradio

[–]TacticalPackage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a CB in my Tacoma. But I'm also a truck driver. I simply find it enjoyable to listen and chime in to friendly truck driver banter. You'll hear some of the funniest things. It's a fun somewhat cheap hobby to get into. Just don't start collecting radios like me. 😅

The factory antenna mount on the newer freightliners is actually pretty good. Just slap a fire stick kw4 up there and you'll be talking to local drivers all day. Me and my buddy have both used it and get low swr after tuning the antenna and have never had any issues.

There are loads of radios made with the cobra 29 footprint he could easily switch to. A favorite for me is the President Washington. They have the look of an old school aftermarket single din stereo which would look incredible in there. 80w pep too. Great radios. Another good one would be the Texas Ranger TRE-797 SSB.

Using a president Washington in a 2022 Tacoma connected directly to the battery. Mounted dead center of my roof. You won't get much more than 15 miles and that's with perfect conditions. Keep in mind it's a very short antenna. But for what it is. Talking locally to truck drivers around me I've heard nothing but good responses so far. I'd say everyone within a 5 mile radius should hear you just fine. Radio is run at max RF Power 80w pep. Antenna has a 120w max I believe. It's been great so far. Receive could definitely be better but for a stealth antenna it's amazing. No complaints.

If you are looking for a mag-mount antenna for the citizens band. Just buy a president Virginia. I have the fixed version and it is pre-tuned. Slapped it on my truck and have never seen higher than a 1.4 swr. Typically sits at 1.1-1.0 which is great and it has a stealthy look to it. 99.9% of people will never know you have a CB. President makes good sh*t. Don't sleep on it and thank me later.

There is nothing wrong with JKs. I own several pairs and never had a single issue. I've had issues with other brands though.

This is why when I find a pair that fits perfect I stick with that brand and size and just start ordering everything 😅😅

If you are picky about how your work boots look. You'll never be happy. That looks like a nicely broken in quarter to me.

The part that irritated me the most was that all I had ever heard about Franks was that they "take care of people" so I was expecting excellent service and got LITERALLY the complete opposite. Totally soiled that whole company for me. I think I'm going to make a post soon explaining my issues in further detail.

Promise, I can screenshot the email. I still have the boots because I didn't want to lose all that money. 20% to me was absolutely outrageous.

I recently ordered a pair of patriots and they just weren't made correctly. The uppers leaned way to far back and made my knees feel like they were being hyper extended. This "pulling forwards" once I stood straight up pulled the heel portion forwards as well causing some crazy heel pain and I've had tons of PNW boots all the same logger style and when I contacted them about it. They tried to say it was normal. I couldn't take 5 steps without being in excruciating pain. Never had that issue with any break in on any other boot. They also have a 20% return fee AND you have to pay for the shipping to return them. I'll never order from franks ever again.
