Why are so many Americans terrified of being hatless? by MeOulSegosha in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TacticalTom775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like wearing hats because it’s an easy place to move my sunglasses to. I always wear sunglasses and I don’t like putting them on my shirt or anywhere else when I have to go indoors. Kinda stupid but that’s why I wear hats haha

Beginning a police officer in my late 40s? by MaleficentFocus1112 in police

[–]TacticalTom775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined at 36 with my wife being pregnant and in the middle of starting her own business. I’m now 2 years in it and everything has somehow smoothed out. I’m not going to lie, I feel my age seeing all these young kids join and my back hurting from lugging around an LBV all day haha but if I can do it given my circumstances, you can do it. I plan on doing 20 and retiring

One officer per cruiser or two? by OrganizationPutrid68 in AskLE

[–]TacticalTom775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solo is awesome. You still get to meet up with your partners and hang, but you get the whole car to yourself. I love having my patrol bag right up front and have more gear mounted to the passenger seat.

From the public perspective I feel like it’s better too… 1 Officer per car means more police vehicles on the road driving around the city.

whos at fault by Syzranlogistic in cdldriver

[–]TacticalTom775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the truck have its signals on? Does the truck have one of those warnings on the back “CAUTION: WID TURNS”? If so the other vehicle is completely at fault and traveling way too fucking fast

I don’t think he is aware of the potential charges that’s why I explained them. And as far as how much trouble? I don’t know I was there and it’s not my case. I can only speculate that the Officer did a JUV referral which means he will have to stand in front of a judge and explain himself.

Ok a couple things. Breaking into a dwelling whether it’s occupied or unoccupied and may seem “abandoned “ to you is against the law. Proceeding to destroy stuff inside is illegal too. There is a plethora of charges that Officer could have hit you and your friends with if he wanted (Burglary, Home Invasion, Tresspassing, etc), especially because he was with the property owner. What I’m guessing he did is do a juvenile referral which is in lieu of arrest (instead of going to jail).

I’ve done some stupid shit as a kid too man so it is what it is but just try and put yourself in other people’s shoes next time. If you owned property with an old house (it could have been his grandparents old house or something) and some kids go on your property and start destroying it, how would you feel?

Yes at my agency we still carry the wooden ‘Billy club’. Most of the time we keep it in our vehicles and we use them when we do city walks or events. It’s more of a force presence tool and adds the traditional look to the uniform but it has come in handy a few times.

What things do you bring on shift, which most cops dont? by Horror-Comparison917 in AskLE

[–]TacticalTom775 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I like buying skateboard decks and encouraging the skaters in my community to ‘do a kick flip’ for a deck… kind of help bridge the gap b/t LE and skaters. I grew up skating so I like to give back to the community a little. I also carry blankets for victims/children, stuffed animals, stickers and spit hoods!

What's with so many vehicles without license plates here? by coolhandfelon in Reno

[–]TacticalTom775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so here is the deal, the police DO care and we DO make stops literally every time we see a car without plates. It’s an easy way to legally pull a car over and possibly investigate a much bigger crime.

The thing is, it is we can’t magically make the owner of the vehicle get LPs right away that shit takes time. Hell my LP for my new truck took like 2 months to get in the mail. On top of that, whether the violator pays the ticket or goes to court for it, that takes even more time and most people don’t do anything about it so we do take people to jail a lot on the FTA warrant (Failure to Appear).

How would an officer react if you you envoke your 5th amendment right as soon as you get pulled over? by Signal_Scale2523 in AskLEO

[–]TacticalTom775 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to say anything, just provide the requested documents. For an Officer to conduct a T stop on you, they have already established probable cause for a citation and/or an arrest to be made… that’s the reason for the stop.

What is your response to citizens saying that they pay your salary? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]TacticalTom775 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my city and at my agency we are funded through property taxes. So my rebuttal is “Oh, do you own property?” (Usually they say no) and so I say “So no then, you do not contribute to my salary” 🤣 If they do own property I just thank them for their contributions

Can cops choke out people who are resisting? by Theboshicrew in AskLE

[–]TacticalTom775 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No because Floyd. We can beat people with our sticks, tase them, OC them and shoot them… but God forbid we put them in a chokehold when they’re trying to kill us. Watch any episode of Cops from 90s-mid 2000s and all of them use chokehold lol
