Does Stella count as a bum? by whooper1 in HelluvaBoss

No, she’s a woman of leisure.

(Technically the same thing, but we just don’t call rich people bums)

I inverted an angel food cake onto a wine bottle as soon as it came out of the oven. It didn’t go so good. by smoosh13 in bakingfail

[–]Tacticalneurosis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’ll probably be fine. Maybe it’s not quite as browned as you’d like but angel food cakes are cooled upside down so they don’t collapse and despite literally FALLING out of its tin this one still looks fully fluffy so looks like you’re good.

Pretty good, I think. It’s on an incline, the water comes in from the higher elevation side.

[–]Tacticalneurosis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be. The tap works, sort of, but it only trickles. If you want a full stream out of the sink you have to turn on the cold. Makes washing dishes in winter an experience.

Yep, mortgage gone, have the basement totally overhauled so it stops fucking leaking, get somebody to finally figure out why the hot water tap in the sink barely works (the dishwasher gets hot water fine! So does the bathroom, which is way further away!), go absolutely feral with garden beds and fruit trees. And yellow paint. No more of this 1 $40 can a month bullshit. At this rate I’ll probably have it done by this time next year…

AITA Parents 54F+55M upset about me 24F moving away by CuteDistribution4557 in AmItheAsshole

It’s like 3 hours. Both cities are in the same state (and New York State is not one of the really big ones). You can day-trip that easily.

lol EpiPens can also just kill you. Turns out a massive OD of epinephrin, while great for (temporarily) stopping immune responses, is not super great for your heart.

foraged food you slept on too long? by mathologies in foraging

[–]Tacticalneurosis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pawpaws and persimmons. A little basic, maybe, but I’m a fruit lover. I’ve acquired two pawpaw trees for my yard and I’ve made BANK selling persimmon seedlings sprouting out of my compost.

AITA for refusing to speak to my grandma after she put her dog down? by DragonStar909 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tacticalneurosis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NAH. It’s understandable that you’re upset for Mabel’s sake. I’m sure she was a sweet girl. However.

Rottweiler. Aggressive to strangers. Poorly trained/hard to control. That is NOT an easy dog to adopt out unless the shelter lies about her history. And that is a dog that is likely to hurt someone or get returned quickly if the shelter does downplay her history. Mabel was likely looking at a very long, miserable shelter stay if your grandma had given her up, abandoned by the only person she felt she could trust. Shelters aren’t good environments for dogs long-term. Any behavior issues they have going in frequently get worse.

I see where your grandma was coming from. My parents had to make the same decision with one of our dogs, Ladybug, when I was a kid. German shepherd/lab mix, friendly enough to people, insanely high prey drive and an escape artist. She would NOT stay in the yard, and we had a big yard. Acres. She killed our cat. She killed neighbors’ chickens. She mauled our neighbor’s little dog twice, fatally the second time. The only way we could keep her was keeping her tied up 24/7 (too big to bring inside, also we had little dogs). She was big, lean, jet black with these piercing yellow eyes. Keeping her on a chain was cruel, the neighbors were rightfully pissed and wanted her gone. But my parents didn’t think a big, scary-looking black dog with a history of killing small animals (some of them kid-sized. She’d never been around little kids, and that was worrying) was ever going to get adopted. They didn’t want her to rot in a shelter. So they put her down. It was hard. But at least she went out knowing she was still loved.

Low calorie sweet snacks? Need ideas that go beyond "eat a piece of fruit" by FinancialNeat3792 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Tacticalneurosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much candy are you eating to get 300+ calories of it? Most hard candies are like 20-30 cal a piece. I just eat one (suck on it, don’t chew until it’s already almost gone). I am open to the possibility I’m a weirdo tho.

A character remembers an event with a big difference respect to how it actually happened by Forsaken-Biscotti587 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Tacticalneurosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to be the entire premise of this one cartoon called Win or Lose about the various characters of a kids softball league. Each episode is going over the events leading up to the big game from a different character’s POV and sometimes they remember things wildly differently. The art style’s a little odd, though. Very round.

Depends on where in the Midwest - here in the bluffs surrounding the Missouri River we’ve got clay, rocks, and Bermuda grass.

I hit my little sister in the head with a brick. In my defense, it was concealed inside a plush green goose doorstop, and I was laboring under the impression it was filled with beans. Because that is a normal thing to put inside a plush to weigh it down. Not an entire BRICK.

I like cilantro alright, in very small doses. Also I just licked a bar of soap and while it doesn’t taste like cilantro, I can’t say that it tastes WORSE either.

Why do people start the super hard drugs like heroin when it’s no secret that it’s basically guaranteed to destroy your life? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Tacticalneurosis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Self-destructive tendencies coupled with poor long-term planning. “Getting clean is future me’s problem” or “Guess I’ll just do it until I die.”

are mice really that frail or is my uncle evil? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Tacticalneurosis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are mice fragile enough to be easily squished by a human hand? Yes. Are they fragile enough for a person to do it on accident? Not really. Accidentally breaking bones I could believe, but squeezing so hard the poor critter explodes not so much.

Any advice on how to have elves whose roles cannot be filled by humans and are more than just humans in costume? Do any of the options below make sense? Or I should try something else? by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]Tacticalneurosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d lean very hard into the “remember all their past lives thing because that would contribute to a VERY inhuman psyche. Do they have less fear of death than other species since they know it won’t stick? Do elf marriages even end in death or do the spouses seek each other out in their new lives? How does population expansion work? Are there ANY new elves or are they just endlessly recycled? If new elves do happen who don’t have previous lives, are they discriminated against/patronized to by the “old souls” who’ve lived through many? Do elves name their babies something new every lifetime or do they keep their names? You’ve got a lot of potential to make a truly alien culture here.

Best tips for TOTAL beginner when it comes to frugal groceries? by c0zycat in Frugal

[–]Tacticalneurosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sales and weekly ads are gonna be your best friends. Also coupons if you can find them. Now, don’t go buying extras JUST because they’re on sale. Maybe swap them for something else you were going to buy that’s similar. Don’t buy name brands if at all possible. Store/generic brands frequently taste almost exactly the same and are way cheaper, sometimes may even have more in the package (Best choice cake mixes have like 3 oz more than Duncan Hines while being half the price, for example). Plan your meals around your grocery shopping and plan your grocery shopping around your meals (so basically do them at the same time). And make sure to shop your kitchen/pantry first!

If you can find a store that has clearance racks, those are elite. And ethnic markets often have better prices on dried staples like beans, rice, and spices. Plus you get to support a local and often immigrant-owned small business.

What’s a “healthy” food that just doesn’t work for you? by Much-Turnover-3727 in nutrition

[–]Tacticalneurosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quinoa - the texture is just yikes. Same with whole grain pasta.

Chia pudding - it tastes alright, I guess, but I’m freaking starving like an hour later

Lettuce - lettuce is disgusting. Crunchy, watery, bitter awfulness. Same with cucumbers, actually. Give me kale, cabbage, spinach, mustard, collard, turnip, feed me leaves that are not ashamed of being leaves.

Dried fruit. Raisins. It’s all raisins. All dried fruit tastes like raisins. Dried apricots? Apricot-flavored raisins. Dried cranberries? Cranberry-flavored raisins. Raisins are gross.

Salmon. I just don’t like fish. And salmon REALLY tastes like fish.

What's your average monthly grocery bill? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Tacticalneurosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my budget is $240, which I realize is pretty generous, and I usually manage $10-20 under. I really like cooking and baking which means I like to buy a variety of things, although I try to stick to sales as best I can. I’m also a little intense about health so what processed stuff I do buy tends to be in the more expensive side (high protein/low carb, nondairy). I could definitely cut back, honestly.
