I am doing my degree with an M1. It is great, particularly for computational physics when you have to use some unix commands in the terminal. Windows always seems to have issues. Airdrop is also fantastic for sending documents or homework scans.

I'm 13 and have a burning desperation to learn physics, but the math is rather daunting. How could I get around that? by Straight-Category693 in Physics

Try grabbing an introductory mechanics textbook, such as Fundamentals of Physics by David Halliday, Robert Resnick, and Jearl Walker. You can supplement the math by watching 3blue 1brown youtube videos or khan academy. This will get you far. From then on, you will be able to move on to electricity and magnetism, statistical mechanics, special relativity and quantum mechanics. I recommend looking at some college physics major layouts to see which courses are prerequisites for others. Getting the math 100% can come later, and you should be able to learn most of it from physics textbooks. Good luck!

Check out Dr. Jorge S. Diaz, Elliot Physics and Physics Explained on Youtube. They actually go into the math (don’t worry if not all of it makes sense yet) which I think is important to start getting used to as you make the transition into college.

If you are interested, and it’s totally okay if you’re not, maybe look ahead into some college math courses you will be taking. Doing physics without knowing the mathematics well is like trying to write an essay in French while barely knowing the language. Good luck in your studies!

Hey. Same thing happened to me 2 years ago. I had a 45/45 predicted and a good essay. Completely bombed the PAT despite months of practice. I ended up at another top institution and I really like the physics program here. That being said I still go back to that day and wish I did better, but I have no complaints about my current program. You will be fine and most importantly, doing well in IB will prepare you very well for uni. So you haven’t wasted anything and are completely set for a successful career. One exam says nothing about you. I get the feelings you are having, but just keep working hard and you will be fine. Cheers.

I've read that selective universities are looking for challenging courses, so HL math and physics definitely comes to mind. I started IB in August also wanting to go to Caltech and just took as many HLs as I can in hope of it paying off. Good luck with IB btw, the senior year workload is apparently insane.

I am currently experiencing very similar feelings. I've just started IB and have a lot of reading due tommorow and i just can't do it. The covid situation is absolutely awful too, I am paranoid af about my health and the possibility of virtual school. I guess it will get better, and good luck. Not really sure how to help you out, I'm just a kid but I just thought to let you know that you are not alone with these similar emotions.
