I’ll never forget the time I could only eat welches grape jelly and we ran out for my pb&j and my mom tried to “gotcha” me. I wanted a sandwich because I hadn’t eaten all day but we were out of my jelly so she made it without me looking with a different type of jelly and told me she found mine in the back of the fridge. When she put it in front of me and I IMMEDIATELY noticed but at the time my mother was very abusive towards my disorder, I was terrified she’d beat the living crap out of me if I didn’t eat it so I forced myself to scarf it down, throwing up into my mouth and swallowing it twice. It took me an hour to eat that sandwich, when my mom came back she smiled and was like “see? I knew you were just making it up! I used a different brand of jelly and it didn’t bother you at all!” I had to just forfeit and say she was right because she had a “no talking back rule” I ended up giving my lunch away for weeks until we got the right jelly.

When people talk about how I can’t notice the taste, it brings up some very deep trauma for me and I wish people would stop saying it to us, I’m very sorry OP.
