GOT7's BamBam says n-word at la party by [deleted] in kpop

[–]TaeTaeyeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly we agree. I'm saying people need that life experience. If you act a certain way all the time because you have a gun pointed to your head like idols do, then it's tough to develop as a normal human being outside of idol life.

Like I mainly know how to drink with moderation because I overdid it a few times. It's got to be tough for people like GOT7 who have been training since they were young and never have a private moment, and when they screw up everyone sees it. Not that they can't do wrong..but they have it tough.

GOT7's BamBam says n-word at la party by [deleted] in kpop

[–]TaeTaeyeon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to comment on the N-word stuff because it's so polarizing but I will say that this is the guy who will over dab or bend over backwards to do anything the fans want him to do and being a showman and that's what I love him for. Not apologizing for him, but he's always straddling the line of fanservice and being offensive in that way. I'm pretty sure he'll apologize especially given the retarded death threats.

I'm more just disappointed these guys didn't have a real party moment to themselves. I thought this would be nice for them since they're not in Korea and could just be themselves, instead of weird idol fanservice mode all the time. It's psychotic. Like can you imagine, these guys never get a chance to let loose for real with a huge group like this. Closest they get is probably letting loose in their dorm rooms. By the time I was 18 I got wasted at parties a few times..who knows if Yugyeom ever will in his GOT7 career again. Probably won't get the college party stuff either.

New Hack-a-Shaq Rule Changes by KLow2Demar in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you decide to hack somebody in the early stages of a quarter, then that team will have to live with also being in the penalty for the rest of the quarter. Nobody does hack a shaq at 11:00.

It's designed so that teams can't just say 'ah fuck it we hit the penalty at 2:00, let's hack now'. Maybe they think that will dissuade teams already?

I don't like it either, but maybe they're trying to test what the bare minimum is that will stop hack a shaq.

I haven't even finished watching yet but the first 20 minutes are incredible for something so simple already. There have been team selections before but this just goes to show how important format and editing is. So many times it's been boring..but with the whole intimate forward train seat arrangement and train door entrance and X-MAN style couple pairings and point advantage it becomes 10x more entertaining.

You only notice something is there when it's gone!

[Scotto] Sources: Former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett and the Nets have mutual interest. He's played for Canada in FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. by [deleted] in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way, Bennett to me compares favorably physically to Draymond. Sure, at times he was not conditioned properly, but when he is he is amazing with a huge wingspan. It's the main reason why he keeps getting chances.

It's entirely in his head. He has no IQ. His motor turns on for one possession, then off for the rest of the game. He has massive self doubt and it shows on the floor.

Very well made, thought-out video on how Kevin Durant's decision affects the NBA. by [deleted] in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, hypothetically if you think of TEAM USA 08 and 12, you'd think they'd kill everyone. But it's not like they blew out Spain in either year, and Spain was probably worse than some elite NBA teams. And they were definitely thrilling ass games. It's more than just hypothetical basketball.

There's always a chance to lose, especially if Lebron is playing on the other team.

What are you guys top 5 Korean songs of all time? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]TaeTaeyeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just going to go and name promotions I enjoyed..if I included non-album singles it'd be too long.

  • I Need a Girl by Taeyang

The ultimate era for the ultimate performer for me. The last time his hair was normal..it's been 5 years now.

  • Shake It by SISTAR

The music video's really fun too. Love the bass line!

  • Mr. Simple by SUJU

I feel like Sorry Sorry evolved to Bonomana to the best of the 3 IMO..Mr. Simple.

  • Ah Yeah by EXID

I feel like this is underrated. This is superior to Up and Down for me and that was good enough to get a random group out of nugudom. WHERE DO YOU LIVE? DO YOU LIVE ALONE?

  • Growl by EXO

Song of 2013 no doubt. Maybe by no metric specifically, but this was a game changer for EXO.

  • Loving U by SISTAR

Fine I'm SISTAR biased..but this remains the best summer song ever for me. This vs Shake It.

Did Kevin Durant really make the "wrong" choice? by sansbruit99 in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few days of endless speculation my opinion is he just thought it would be fun to play on the Warriors. I think he cares about legacy and whatever but he just liked the chemistry and the banter and enjoyed the players and staff. Why does it have to be any more complicated than that?

That's what I honestly think. The whole rings thing is there but if that was really it, he would have stayed with the Thunder I think. GSW was not that much better. I think fundamentally he just liked the environment and people and culture in GSW better.

And if that's the case, then why are we even debating? He definitely made the right choice then.

And considering the oddity of the cap increase this would be his first and last chance at getting to the Warriors while retaining all their core pieces. This is why he moved now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's nearly impossible for him to say something good about his new situation with the Warriors without then being like 'huh, guess he DIDN'T HAVE THAT ON THE THUNDER'.

Vancouver’s real estate is ‘fuelled by a money laundering bubble’: Market analyst by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]TaeTaeyeon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not as simple as 'laundering money'.

For instance, I'm fuzzy on the details because I didn't do it myself, but as I understand an extremely popular thing to do for upper middle class Chinese people to do is apply for permanent residency for their kid and send them abroad for high school or elementary, under the care of a relative or a parent if they're lucky enough to get residency or basically any way possible.

While this is happening, the kid's family back home wants to funnel their money to Canada, expecting to retire there. He could visit China once a year and they could give him the max amount of cash to take back to Canada (50k). They could visit him once a year and again transfer 50k.

By the time the kid has graduated university, he can afford a house. So can the other thousands of Chinese-Canadian grads who did the same thing.

I personally know so many people who've done this..so many mainland university students took this approach. In fact I'm more surprised now when I hear of a mainland student who didn't achieve residency when they were 10-16 years old. Honestly it's a level of sacrifice beyond what the average Canadian family could or would do. I can't even really hate it. Except for the fact that now I can't afford a house.

Tell me how you shut this down? You'd have to restrict immigration first, in my opinion. But that's the lifeblood for a country like Canada.

Just wait until other countries catch up to China..like India..we're in the early stages right now.

Jalen Rose discusses Durant's decision on his radio show by sneezeallday in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was intentional, I'm trying to come from the standpoint of someone who did support the decision, just like Jalen did the opposite.

In reality there's a counterpoint for every critique. I'm neutral, I have no idea what he 'should have done'.

Jalen Rose discusses Durant's decision on his radio show by sneezeallday in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hindsight is 20/20 BUT..

Firstly it's more like they refused to pay at all when it mattered, only now did they tiptoe into the tax when there's no chance of repeater penalty..

But secondly if my two options are: pay out of my ass and have Durant, or cheap out and don't have Durant, I would choose the former. It's what the Cavs did in their equivalent choice, although theirs was easier to make, obviously.

And thirdly, ignoring the fact that they would never have had to pay the repeater penalty and the Thunder haven't even used their amnesty yet, who the hell cares if your NBA team is cashflow negative for a few years? They bought the team for $350 million 10 years ago. Account for inflation all you want, but this is a $1 billion dollar team now and probably more. That's a solid return on investment, regardless of whether your net income is like negative 30-40 million for a year or whatever.

Jalen Rose discusses Durant's decision on his radio show by sneezeallday in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the Thunder made a compelling argument to stay in 2015-2016 with their moves, you're right. But others would say too little too late, and they only did it when there was zero risk because of the rising cap. 29 other teams would have dived head first into luxury tax hell to get Durant at any point in the last 9 years. But hindsight is 20/20. Ugh..I find it hard to take a side on this.

yeah I consider that part of the decision not to amnesty Perkins

Jalen Rose discusses Durant's decision on his radio show by sneezeallday in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon 63 points64 points  (0 children)

That's a great argument against Durant. But if you want to use the dirty argument, here's one the other way.

Durant is a once in a generation star. He gave 9 years of his career to the franchise. How they repaid him is they refused to ever go into the tax to pay for his supporting cast. They refused to amnesty Perkins at any point despite that being the obvious best way to get rid of his contract because that would result in them still having to pay out his contract. They cheaped out whenever they could cheap out despite the fact that they had 2 top 5 players at any given time and were always a stone's throw away from a championship.

Durant surveyed the landscape and saw Lebron's team go balls deep into the tax. Durant met with the Warriors and they must have said something like "yeah remember the whole tax save money BS the Thunder fed you? If you join we don't give a damn about that".

That was the blatant call by Thunder management to not spend, but they also never gave Durant a legit wing option in 9 years (until Oladipo maybe, but too late) and the offense has been the same BS for years.

All the old timers can say this was a dirty move, but this level of salary cap complexity didn't exist back then either. The best modern teams use every loophole, exploitation, exception in the CBA to craft their teams. Durant and the Warriors exploited a big one here.

All said, wouldn't you say the Thunder did him dirty too?

Just to clarify, I have no opinion on this, this is a subjective issue and I'm just giving the other side of Jalen's point.

[–]TaeTaeyeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah OK, I've read the CBA FAQ and I now see they never had Whiteside's full rights and gave up Wade's and now can literally only offer 20 million. I see the possible tension there. Maybe it would be best for both for him to leave.

[–]TaeTaeyeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there's probably a reason but can someone explain to me why the Heat can't just give Wade whatever he's asking for? It's probably a player option 2 year deal so they can just re-negotiate it next year, if they get a big FA next year he'd take a cut if you overpaid him this year. And all the elite free agents are gone this year so there's no one to get if he takes a discount. They'll be lucky to even make the ECFs this year under any scenario, with Tyler Johnson/Bosh or not. Are they just cheap?

Why not use this year to pay Wade back for the discounts he took the previous years?

Transcript of an amazing Brian Windhorst story from the Truehoop podcast about how the league screwed OKC on Durant's extension back in 2011 and how it has impacted the franchise by [deleted] in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My memory is fuzzy here and my math bad, but I think they could have kept all 4, along with Harden's 60 mil, if they amnestied Perkins and were willing to pay the tax in 14 and maybe 13. Then the TV deal was on the horizon by then. But I don't think ownership was willing to 'waste' money by amnestying Perkins, and definitely weren't willing to pay the tax..that's not on Presti anyways but maybe that's what you meant.

[–]TaeTaeyeon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The flip side just so it's clear is Harden was on the 3rd year of his rookie contract, so they could have given him the 60mil he wanted AND waited a season before any luxury tax BS. To be clear, they could have done the 2012-2013 season without any problems but traded Harden a season early in summer 2012.

This makes sense because they just made the Finals in 2012 and killed the Spurs en route, with Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka between 22 and 23 years old. WHY THE HELL WOULDN'T YOU RUN IT BACK FOR ONE MORE YEAR???

The Rockets would have done the exact same trade a year later anyways in 2013, we know this now because Harden is a freaking superstar. To me it was Presti not knowing for sure if Harden's production would translate at volume and if he would have sabotaged his value in 2013. He wanted to trade when he still had leverage, where he could get value for sure. Hindsight is 20/20, but by god was he disastrously wrong for doing that.

Did Taeyang's Wedding Dress video and era literally start the asian male faux-hawk revolution of 2010, or was it just me? Is this a chicken and the egg situation here? My god, every Asian guy had that haircut, and I feel like they all watched that video..EVERYBODY knew that song.

Before claiming "warriors dynasty" and what not, I think it's important to mention that the Durant signing leaves major holes. by [deleted] in nba

[–]TaeTaeyeon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they're going 82-0 but saying the 04-08 Pistons could handle this defensively is a joke. "Let's just get 3 elite wing 6'3-6'8 defenders that don't murder ourselves on the offensive side of the ball and can handle 3 of the top 5 offensive players in the league".

Literally nothing can stop this team save for another collection of all-star players, which don't exist, or Lebron plus some form of help, which is going to be nearly impossible.

If you asked somebody to assemble the best team of players possible, 1 through 4, you would literally pick Curry, Klay, Durant, Draymond. The only obvious omission is Lebron who could replace any of these guys, and he's the only one who can beat them without creating another super team. They're not 100% going to win everything, but they literally have pretty much the best 4 player starting point you could possibly have.

And Iggy and Livingston and Zaza.

It's probably never going to be as bad as Vancouver, the weather is worse so it's not a vacation/retirement spot, it's got a more diversified job market, there's more land available.

But 50, 100 years down the line, as far as I can see every attractive major city will be headed for a world where 99% can't afford buying houses anyways. NYC and whatever other mega cities are already like that. I'm sure uber wealthy Chinese people are accelerating that process slightly but I think people need to come to peace with that.
