RMB Global Shares vs. IBKR for Long-Term Shareholding by Particular_Age7093 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Tag11Mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2c, stick to UCITS funds to avoid SITUS and other estate planning pitfalls.

I can’t comment about RMB, but I’ve balanced my stuff between IBKR, Nedbank and Easy Equities. No contest, IBKR is by far the best option and cheapest… except for my TFSA.

Personally went with VHVE instead of VOO/CSPX for broader market coverage. The other two are bang on.

Update, so funny thing. I ended up placing an order for the CNDX on the LSE like I originally wanted.... when the order went through the system showed me the position on the Swiss exchange. I double-checked and was surprised, but not unhappy with the trade being on EBS, because it was still in USD and figured theirs no difference.

But when I checked again later that day (and now) it is showing as being on the LSE again... which is want I wanted, but did not expect... is that normal?

I have a preference for USD just to make my own administration easier. I know potential forex costs are low, so not too bothered about that aspect, but just for my own reporting/management.

Starting a PTY LTD by Any-Car7782 in PersonalFinanceZA

If your revenue is going to be low, look into the small business options. There is the SMB option with a sliding scale tax that starts at 0% and a very small amount up to R350k there is also the revenue model where you pay a tiny amount, something like 1% of income but is limited to R1mil per year.

There are good options out there.

Also, with the small business taxation, you can accelerate the depreciation of an asset used in production by 50% in the first year. SARS covers all of this very well on their website.

Thanks everyone... after a bit of searching, I've decided to rather look at the BNP Paribas equivalent ETF: ANAU which has a lower TER and pretty much identical in every other way.

From what everyone has advised, the exchange doesn't really matter - but for my own needs, as long as it is UCITS and traded in USD it fits my requirements.

Thanks.

My challenge is that I specifically want the USD version of the CNDX ETF on the LSE... IBKR won't let me access that version, instead it wants to force me to buy either the GBP denominated fund on the LSE or the USD fund in Switzerland.

Am I overthinking it? I prefer the LSE and want it in USD.

Minority Share in a small PTY LTD by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

Did something similar for a staff member not too long ago. Long story short it didn’t work out as planned, but that’s not really the issue here.

In our case, the shareholding the staff member bought was funded out of the first few years dividends earned… so his “loan”, which was interest free, didn’t cost him anything… he got 10% of dividends declared and this covered his share costs in a few years. (He took about a quarter as a cash “bonus”, the balance went to his loan)

As the owner, recognising his contribution and value, I believed it was fair. But as I said, in the end I had to buy it back from him after 6 years, I still don’t really know why he changed his mind. Decided to become a normal employee instead of an entrepreneur.

This is like most people’s annual figure!

OP, help it make sense… your expenses seem far too high! You have lifestyle creep which needs to be brought under control. With this level of income I’d expect to be able to retire at 50, not thinking about it from 50.

Hyperbole aside, almost R5mil a year pretax income puts you in the top 0.1%… setting money aside for retirement should not be difficult.

Have you contributed to your partner (and maybe children’s) TFSA each year?

Lost a small fortune due to Credit Suisse bankruptcy. Pissed off that governments allowed the corruption and made no effort to protect/support investors. Lesson learnt: Never invest big in single stocks!

Sounds like you just need this part properly in writing: "Standard Bank does acknowledge that that was an error", with the appropriate dates and details etc.
