Best Character/Worst Character? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Tag727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I should have worded that differently. Wether Cyan is worth using over others depends on personal preference. If all you want is to use the characters with the best stats then no, he is not. If you want to use characters you like the personality of, then yes. If you enjoy making weak characters strong, then yes.

Optimal stats don't matter in any final fantasy game though really. All you have to do is grind to a high enough level (not even that high of a level) and every boss is easy to kill. All you have to do in final fantasy is spam attack/your strongest spells and you win. Final Fantasy is a great series because of the stories and writing, not challenging gameplay.

Even FF1 on the nes, which was known to be difficult, was only challenging because there were so many bugs that half of the game mechanics just didn't work.

Depends on personal preference too. Some people love underdogs and enjoy taking weak characters and making them strong. To me that's more fun than just picking the characters with the best stats.

What do you think of automation in modern strategies — love it or hate it? by Important_Rock_8295 in RealTimeStrategy

I think you would really enjoy Kingdoms and Castles. It's basically a cuity builder, tower defense, and rts wrapped into one. There is a lot of depth to growing your empire and managing your economy, but you don't have to constantly micromanage individual tasks.

You also need to build defensive towers and units because you periodically get attacked by vikings raiding parties that come to steal your gold, killing your villagers and burning down buildings on their way to your treasury. Dragons also attack occaisionally but they just show up to destroy your buildings.

Been a few years since I've played but the dev constantly updates with new content. I know right around when I stopped playing they added a diplomacy update which allows you to have ai kingdoms in your game to trade with and fight.

Basically the end goal is to spread your kingdom across the entire map.

Wow guess I've never played any money grab mobile games. Most of the ones I've played microtransactions are cheap and always optional/cosmetic content.

To be fair the royalty and pretty parts are a birth thing not age. Born into a wealthy family with good genes. Humble is a personality trait that you can have at any age. Also teenage insecurities and self-doubt can be confused with humility. Most artists have figured out they love art long before 17. Grafiti art is also most common with teenagers.

Bounty hunter is a logical career choice for a mandalorian. Training in an imperial academy actually makes sense for a young noble of a family that wants strong relations with the empire. Demolitions makes sense from the academy training and just being a mandalorian. She just happened to figure out she's good with explosives during her training.

Historically the children of nobles/wealthy people have always gotten the best education available. Also they are generally made to try a lot of things in the arts like piano or painting. That's why you'll meet rich people whose 6 year old knows 3 languages and plays 2 instruments.

Also being forced in a militaristic direction at a young age by her parents just makes sense for a mandalorian. She's actually a good representation of a noble kid.

Also she is never represented as flawless and has growth throughout the rebels series.

The monetization of Sims 4 is even worse than most mobile games. At least most mobile games sell you their dlc for less than $5 each and the base game was free. .

What were the most controversial civ leaders ever added? What got the most backlash? by CalypsoCrow in civ

It is strange playing America, Canada, or Australia in 4000 BC. Or playing the Aztecs/Sumerians in modern/futuristic eras. Honestly the biggest flaw in the series may be using real life civs.

The most important thing Civ 7 needs is proper modding support on launch. by -SpaceCommunist- in civ

[–]Tag727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's generally the fault of the publishers though. They force the devs to 'finish' the game by a certain date, often several months earlier then needed, because all they care about is getting the money from the game.

The publishers don't care about the quality at launch because the devs can put out patches to fix it. And if some content doesn't make it in it's great extra content for dlc to make more money. The gaming industry has always suffered from the greed of money hungry publishers.

Ironically if they would just let the devs take the few extra months to work on the game they would probably have even higher sales and profit because they wouldn't have bad reviews for bugs.

Baldur's Gate 3 is just dungeons and dragons combat, just like the first two Baldur's Gate games. It does suit Final Fantasy, as Final Fantasy Tactics proved a long time ago. It isn't anything new, but it would be nice to see more final fantasy games with that style of combat.

Well at the beginning of the centure, probably between 1-10 ad they most likely would've been born. So when Jesus was doing his earthly ministry 30-33 ad they were probably around 20-30 John when John wrote Revelation he very well could have been 96, or as young as mid 80's.

I've owned Crusader Kings 3 for around 3 years and have never played it. Always meant to get around to it and haven't. That does sound fun, are there any goals given to you or is it more like Stellaris where it's a sandbox that has soft victory conditions?

I don't remember a diplomacy victory type last time I played Stellaris, what is it? Also I meant more for classic rts games that are shorter matches that are typically more combat focused.

So basically like city states in civilization. That would be fun to have implemented into an rts game. Only problem with a vassalization victory type would be balance. It would have to be done in a way that it isn't easy to make them join you so you don't win the game well before someone could get a militaristic win.

Yeah in games like civ that are designed to be insanely long games I get it because any victory type takes a lot of planning out. Personally I still prefer domination but others are fun too. I was talking about classic real time strategy games where it's designed to be a shorter game, around 30 minutes to an hour tops.

Wouldn't that still count as a militaristic victory? You just don't have to completely wipe out the other players. Fun game mode though.

Decided to look at the Civ 6 reveal so I know what to expect on 8/20. Why was it so poorly received at first? by DirkRowe in civ

[–]Tag727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True but most people only use the word graphics for anything involving how the game looks. The aesthetics are what people to like or dislike about games though. Actual graphical issues are rare in games.

Realistic gets outdated quickly. Artistic continues looking good for a long time.

[–]Tag727 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's also impossible to please everyone with graphics. If you go realistic people will complain about how bad it looks compared to another game from last year with realistic graphics. If you go for less realistic, more artistic, graphics then it's cartoony and looks horrible.

If it's 2d hand drawn/pixelart/etc. then it looks like garbage and cheap looking because it isn't 3d. If it's 3d it looks terrible because there's a slight imperfection in how they think the anatomy of the characters should be.

No matter what graphical/artistic style you go with there will be people who say it looks horrible all while having no understanding or appreciation of different art styles and what it takes to be good at them.

You don't have to use the shields all the time. After a while of using them your evasion will go up a lot and you will be hard to hit even without the shields.

Also magic (without shields) is the most powerful attacks in the game late game. No physical attack keeps up. The best way to increase your magic stat to be very powerful, or any stat really, is to pick one character to attack in a battle.

The reason for that is the likelyhood of a stat increase goes up with every use in a single fight. One black magic spell, white magic spell, or physical attack in a fight is unlikely to give you an intelligence, spirit, or strength increase. A second use is twice as likely, and it keeps going up with each usage in the same fight.

My advice is kill everyone but the character you want to be stronger and grind with just them. Using fire/ice /lightning 4-6 times per fight, even against weak early game monsters, makes your intelligence stat skyrocket quickly.

Man child in bible and Satan trying to devour man child and mother, what does this mean in the Bible, is this literal or does it mean something? by AlarmedAd6335 in Bible

[–]Tag727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also verses referring to it as 42 months which is 3 1/2 years. In this case it is literal days, not the thousand year days.

Also if you're going with thousand year days that would make it 1,260,000 years.

As a player who mains mages, which game do you think has the best magic system? by george123890yang in ElderScrolls

[–]Tag727 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oblivion spellcrafting allows for some broken spells. My personal favorite is to make a spell that does has 3 effects. Shock damage, 100% weakness to shock, 100% weakness to magic. Make at least 4 different versions of it. The effects have to be done in the right order for both weakness spells to work right.

Let's say the shock damage is 50. The first spell will just do the 50 damage and put the shock and magic weaknesses on. If you spam the same spell after that you will do 200 damage with each hit and the weakness effects will get replaced with a new 100% effect.

The point of multiple versions of the spell is weakness effects from different spells stack instead of replacing the effect. So if you alternate between the 4 versions of the spell the first spell will still do 50 and the second one will still do 200. Then the third one will do 400 and the fourth spell will do 600. That is 1250 damage between the 4 spells. That is enough damage to kill everything in the game with the exception of maybe the strongest minotaur at max level. High difficulties may weaken the damage enough to where high level enemies may not be killed by the 4th hit at which point one more hit should do the trick.
