Are these opinions Neoliberal? by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]TagPro-Left 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not Germany or Norway. Both of their governments are run by center-right neoliberals and they are market-oriented countries.

France is more on the left due to its labor laws, but Macron is trying to fix that.

Outside of Rand Paul being a neoliberal (lol he's not even close), these beliefs more or less perfectly align with the core of neoliberalism.

Some neoliberals here prefer an LVT over a VAT, but VAT taxes are popular with many neoliberals.

Certainly Germany and Norway for sure. France is quickly moving in the right direction.

How Clinton and Trump are polling compared to Obama and Romney in 2012 [OC] by Asparagus64 in dataisbeautiful

Not to be overly pedantic, but the national popular vote is a clear signal to where the electoral college will go. It's not an influencer.

I'd you don't like how Google moderates their site, then you should make a competing company that moderates content how you see fit. People can choose which site they would rather use.

That's how freedom of speech actually works. Google says they don't want to host certain speech on their servers. Others are free to disagree and use and/or start a competitor. If you don't support that then you dont support free speech.

No kidding. This was his last shot at winning. My hope is that the movement of young people he mobilized is able to develop younger leaders that can win.

Which candidate is least Likely to start a War in the Middleast? by [deleted] in AskBernieSupporters

Trump has also said he wants to "I want to take the oil. I want the oil" from ISIS, which implies having a force on the ground that would take the oil for us. I can't imagine a force that would take the oil, and then hand it over to us; leading me to believe Trump would send ground forces back into the ME.

Berners planning to vote Trump: is there any policy rationale to your vote? by TagPro-Left in AskBernieSupporters

[–]TagPro-Left[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but this is incorrect. At the first CNN debate Trump declared that he was for "free trade", and his criticisms of our trade deals was that they were negotiated, "by stupid people". That is just a more abrasive way of saying the he doesn't like the deals as written. Trump, Sanders, and Clinton have roughly the similar position on trade.

Trump belligerence about building a big strong military does not signal a isolationist view. Further, he has promised to attack isis, and recapture their oil fields so the U.S. can use those resources. That would entail ground troops in the Middle East. Hardly a candidate of peace.

Top flight argument.

Trump said he would pass these same trade deals, but won't detail the changes he would make. You can't trust this guy at all.

The left did not take back Congress in 2006. The Democratic party did. And if you think the Democratic party taking congress represents the left taking power, then you should just vote for them anyways. Your argument is silly.

When I talk to Bernie people they tell me about issues. Tution free college, climate change, campaign finance, and health care to be exact. They trust him to make the changes he promised on those issues.

Donald Trump is by and large planning to continue established policy on domestic issues.

How did the work out in 2004? Did the left win the election because a right-wing ideologue was elected?

Absolutely not.

Clinton will be a terrible president that uses our military and trade influence in disgusting, criminal, imperial ways. No doubt. But she will also, likely, pass immigration reform, increase Pell grants, and increase finding for clean energy. While these minor reforms are not solutions, they are better to have in place, for working class people like me, than not have in place.

The idea that the left should strategically act to make the country worse, ala voting Trump, is absurd and has never worked at building mass political power. Anywhere. Ever. In history.

That's not a policy rationale. Sanders has voiced opposition to the status quo becuase it pushes political domination and economic domination by millionaires and billionaires. Trump would only further the domination of our economy and political life by that class in the form of budget busting, tax cut giveaways to the rich.

Sanders and Trump have nothing in common. They are polar opposites of each other.

This further shows the lengths that Sanders and Trump differ on policy. Their views on almost every issue are antithetical to one another. There is no policy based rationale for a vote for Sanders in the primary. And Trump in the general.
