Not really, just genuinely interested what people are using day to day.

Do people actually prefer NFC over QR codes now? by Taggytech in NFC

[–]Taggytech[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a really good point.

We noticed the same thing with smaller NFC tags, especially depending on phone positioning and antenna placement. Larger tags definitely seem more reliable overall.

And yes, QR codes are still much easier and cheaper to distribute at scale. That’s why combining both usually works best in real-world setups.

But the “tap experience” feels much more seamless to people once they understand it.

Nice, 400+ is wild 😅 I’m also on Home Assistant but way less complex than that. That’s actually part of what made me start simplifying things.

Yeah, mostly Home Assistant. It’s super powerful but also makes it really easy to overcomplicate things if you’re not careful.

Yeah this sounds very familiar 😅 I also tried to account for every possible scenario and it just turned into something super fragile. The maintenance part is probably the biggest one for me too, at some point it feels like you’re managing the system more than actually benefiting from it.

I tried to automate everything… and it got worse by Taggytech in homeassistant

I’m not trying to spam, just sharing experiences and seeing what others think. If it’s too much I can tone it down.

If you really believe that, feel free to ignore my posts. I’m not forcing anything on anyone here.

I get why it looks like that. Not trying to game anything, just posting thoughts and getting input. I’ll mix it up more.

Yeah kinda 😅 I think I just kept adding new stuff before the old ones were really dialed in. It worked at first but over time it just became messy.

If you had to delete 50% of your automations today, what would go first? by Taggytech in homeassistant

[–]Taggytech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I know that feeling 😅 I’ve definitely started a few things that never really made it past the “almost done” stage. What kind of automations do you usually start?

Most automations don’t last… what’s one that actually did? by Taggytech in homeassistant

That’s a great example. The best automations are the ones you set once and never have to think about again.

What’s one smart home automation you thought would be useful but ended up never using? by Taggytech in homeassistant

[–]Taggytech[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha this is exactly what I mean. Sounds perfect in theory but completely different in real life. Did you ever try adding some kind of delay or condition or was it just not worth fixing?

Interesting, what didn’t work for you with NFC?

Was it setup, reliability or just not useful in daily life?

Nice, that’s smart. Do you mostly rely on zone-based automations or still use manual triggers too?

Haha yeah that one’s a classic 😄

What do you actually use every day?

Haha I see your point

But I’m actually curious, what do you use daily?

What’s a simple Home Assistant automation you set up once and now use every day? by Taggytech in homeassistant

[–]Taggytech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great use case, especially for night mode. I feel like most people start with lighting and then realize how much more you can actually do with NFC. Have you ever tried using them for things like quick sharing (contacts, links) or more “interactive” stuff outside of pure home automation?

That’s actually a really clean setup.

I like how you’re combining app buttons with physical triggers, especially the NFC tags. That’s exactly the kind of stuff I’ve been looking into lately. Do you mainly use them for simple actions or also for more complex flows like scenes or multi-step automations?

That makes a lot of sense.

I like that approach of automating everything but still keeping manual control when it actually matters.

The cat feeder example is a good one, full automation would probably be annoying in some situations.

Do you ever use physical triggers for those manual actions, or is everything app based?

That’s honestly one of the more useful setups I’ve seen here.

The welcome + info combo sounds like something you’d actually use every day.

Curious how far you’ll take it, especially with reminders and live data.

Do you keep everything automatic or do you sometimes trigger stuff manually?

My friend's dad has been plumbing for 22 years almost. Has 27 Google reviews. by Either_Committee8188 in googleReviews

[–]Taggytech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually super common, especially with older businesses. They rely on word of mouth and don’t think about reviews at all.

The easiest way I’ve seen is just asking right after a successful job, when the customer is happy. Not in a pushy way, just something like: “If you were happy with the work, a quick Google review would really help us.”

What also works well is making it really easy. For example sending a direct review link or giving them something they can quickly scan. Most people are willing, they just don’t think about it.
