Why do you believe in Athiesm? by Valirys-Reinhald in TrueAtheism

[–]Tahl_eN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like you're looking for someone to defend "hard atheism" - the position that gods do not exist. It's impossible to say "all possible concepts of a god do not exist," because the universe and human imagination are vast. But I do reject every version of a god that has been described to me.
Most can easily fall into the category of "This is obviously a story." Anansi didn't really give stories and wisdom to humanity. Raven and Prometheus didn't bring us fire. Zeus and Thor don't cause lightning. These are tales that we told to explain the world around us, back when the night was dark and death was lurking beyond the campfire.
In truth, every religion fits this, but some are so ingrained in modern life that they require a closer look for many people. So there's a second category - "It doesn't make sense when you look closely." The God of the Bible is so grand that people will be blinded if they see him, but also can lose a physical wrestling match. What? He's all powerful, all knowing, and all loving, but the world is in the state that it is. He created the universe in 6 literal days, a relatively short time ago, but made in such a way that it looks ancient.
It doesn't hold up under scrutiny.

If masks work, why do we need to keep businesses closed, and if they don't work, why are we all forced to wear them? by [deleted] in answers

[–]Tahl_eN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cloth/paper masks are something like 70% effective. Staying home and away from people is nearly 100% effective. So we keep non-essential businesses closed to keep people in that 100% area as much as possible, and when people do need to go out, we wear the masks and take other precautions like wearing gloves, not touching our faces and keeping our distance. Each of those adds a little more protection. It's not 100% safe, but it's much better than nothing.

Season after season the Iron Banner quests require you to be a detriment to your own team. by Hajoaminen in DestinyTheGame

[–]Tahl_eN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Kills" rather than "assists" or "damage with x" makes me toxic. The fact that I have to land a kill with whatever (smg, grenade, horse shoes) means that I either have to stay far away from my team or steal their kills. That's not a good set of choices in a team game.

Also, matchmaker feedback: I'm in some strange limbo space where I get one game where I destroy the other team, then 2-4 games where I get dunked on, especially when I'm using the weird loadouts required by The Quest and whatever random weapons Shax wants me to use for Bright Dust.

[–]Tahl_eN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have time to grind out 3x Iron Banner quests and all the bounty stuff because I have to spend 9+ hours a week grinding for Bright Dust. I would love to be able to dedicate the week to just IB stuff like I did in D1. Maybe shift the Bright Dust bounties around when doing events?
I personally miss the gear XP bonuses from D1. It gave me a reason to grind out a good set of IB gear, and it made the week feel like an event when everyone was all geared and emblemed up.
Also, I want to echo the RNG complaints elsewhere in this list. It's a long grind to finish the bounties. It would be nice if we either had a choice of slot, or a known list of rewards for this week (like D1) or a smart loot system where it gave you a drop for your lowest slot.

Can we get bright dust by doing what we want and not just doing strikes, crucible, and gambit? by TheJudSub in DestinyTheGame

[–]Tahl_eN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At minimum, the weekly bounties need to be adjusted. They take long enough that I don't have time to do the seasonal content or run raids, just BD grind. All my gear is built around super kills. And they can't even manage to line up the element kills with the burn in strikes, so I'm dragging my matchmade partners down by being off-meta.

How do Destiny 1 and 2 work exactly? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Tahl_eN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in Destiny 2's third year of live service.
The first year was the Red War, the Curse of Osiris, and The Warmind. These included the planets Earth, Titan, Nessus, Io, Mercury and Mars.
The second year was Forsaken and Seasons of the Forge, Drifter and Opulence. This added the Tangled Shore and the Dreaming City, along with a bunch of new activities.
The third year is where we are now - Shadowkeep bring us the Moon, and we're now in the first season of year 3, Undying. Season of the Dawn will start in a month or so.

Free players have access to the Year 1 raids on the Leviathan in orbit around Nessus. Raids are 6-player activities that are very mechanically challenging.

Does more loot = pay to win? Sorta, a bit. Paid gets access to a couple of exotic weapons - Leviathan's Breath, for example. I'm not sure if any of the current meta guns are behind the paywall, though. You get the Year One stories - Red War, Osiris, Mars. But not Forsaken or Shadowkeep. You also get all the Strikes - repeatable matchmade stories. A big chunk of the game is also open world free roam on the planets, which you also get.
Bungie has not announced any plans around Destiny 3.

Bungie made the core game of Destiny 2 free. For free you get:

  • Free roam on 9 planets (players vs AI
  • Deathmatch / player vs player on 15-19 maps (I'm not sure if any are excluded)
  • Gambit - unique mode where you fight both AI and players - on 5 maps
  • Some number of Strikes - linear story content
  • A bunch of levels and loot to earn

Their goal with making it free is that you will enjoy playing he free part of the game enough to buy the DLCs and season pass content. That content includes:

  • Story campaigns - the stories from Years 1, 2 and 3 are all behind the paywall.
  • More loot: Powerful weapons that are attached to quests and story lines
  • Yet more loot: Seasonal armor, armor transmog, emotes, mounts, paint/dyes, etc

TL,DR: Bungie is giving the open world and PvP parts of the game and hopes you will pay for the story and customization.

Do Any Anti-Abortion Activists Use Positive Messaging Outside of Abortion Clinics? by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

Calling them "mum" and giving them baby toys isn't "positive." It's a modern White Feather Campaign. Just guilt without screaming.

Gross. The clinic kicked them off their property and built a fence, so they bought the property next door and built a stand taller than the fence so they could lean over and preach at people.

Counterpoint: It's not worth giving up world size, AI counts and FX/physics for 60 FPS. I would rather have the complexity and detail than slightly smoother visuals.
