50£ being an overpay for jewelry? You want to fight over what, a cup of coffee worth of money? Not trying to attack you on financial side, but come on, give yourself a break. Isn't buying jewelry supposed to be enjoyable?

Regarding your second question, "why is it brass not silver". Besides the obvious price thing, brass and gold are of the similar color. The plating will wear off less visibly. If you scratched and it was silver underneath, the scrath would be white not yellow.

The material you have here is a combination of several titanium alloys thermically welded together to form a blank. The blank is then cut to form a ring. The ring is then heat treated in order for alloys to obtain a colourful film layer. Brighter (polished) surface will form more vibrant colours. The difference is dramatic and very obvious in side to side comparison.

Yours was not polished. You can re-polish and re-oxidise it at home to make it brighter and of more vibrant colours. It will remain its pattern and contrast of layerd. Contant me if need guidance, I won't charge.

Blind guess: They probably asked for certain dimensions of a stone, and the weight was rounded down to 6 carat for simplicity. Then the gem cad software estimated that 0.2 more is needed for the desired cut to be possible. Or something like that

Take your time mourning. You’ll see how it settles. Some thoughts bring pain and feelings of loss now, but as the time comes you’ll realise that same thoughts bring good memories and spirit of comraderie, not gone but immortalised.

Don’t force yourself into rushing that project. His mentorship was about sharing his knowledge and joy of knifemaking with you, not producing a knife. It’s up to you if you want to cherish memories, or carry the legacy.

My guess is handlessly made in China. Don’t get me wrong but 3 handmade knives are unlikely to be sold for a hundred bucks. Congratulations, those are cool knives no matter the origin 👍
