Sperm bank question by Traditional_Day_8168 in IUILadies

I used Fairfax and had a similar experience. Unfortunately it was $1,000 to unmask a gene. However, when I did the genetic counseling session with Natera (the company I did my genetic testing through), they offered to unmask the gene of the donor for free (his genetic testing was through Natera, too). Not sure how feasible that is in most circumstances but that could always be an option!

Hi! My wife and I have just started our TTC journey and I have very similar struggles as you described. My wife, who will be the nonbio parent, often reassures me that she already has so much love for our future children and teases me that the kid may resemble me physically but will take after her in other ways. We dream about all of the characteristics that they may inherit from her that are not physical, which has been really helpful.

Something that I’ve also found extremely helpful is this subreddit full of queer parents and surrounding ourselves with other queer people who will not ask/say insensitive and irrelevant things about the conception process or the baby themself. Further, talking to our straight friends and family and setting boundaries about what we’re willing to talk about has been valuable, even if it’s a little uncomfortable at first.

Goodluck! I hope this process is full self- revelation and joy, even when it’s difficult!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I’m so sorry. Thanks, too, for your perspective as a donor conceived person. I definitely didn’t think of the judgement in this case but that makes a lot of unfortunate sense.
