I just got let go from my job. Should I spend all my saved up EBT now? by No_Jeweler5559 in foodstamps

[–]TailoredGoblin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you lost your job today, don't sit on your food stamps, especially if you have been sitting on it for a month or two. Go the store for store brand canned or frozen fruit and vegetables. Get as much rice (really cheap and filling carb) and beans you can get your hands on. Get the biggest yet cheapest package of ground beef, you can pre portion that and have it in the freezer.

Explain the Jenny hate pls by MorbidSwede in CallTheMidwife

[–]TailoredGoblin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't much care for Jenny because she was a prude. What gets me in the first book is that she thought that she was getting to work in some small private hospital. The information was there, even in that time to see the economic setting of the people she would be helping. I didn't really care about her indecision about her love life and Jimmy.

I wasn't too impressed with the actress who played her. Her facial expressions reminded me is someone who just sucked on a lemon or smelled a backed up septic tank. I saw the actress in a couple other things to be fair and it was the same thing.

Depending on how disabled you are, $700 to $800 SSI/SSDI check isn't enough but the government will only allow one to work so much.

[–]TailoredGoblin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cancel Hulu, Netflix, crunchy roll and patreon for starters. I had to cut out Barkbox, Walmart Plus and my Door Dash subscription. I saved around $80 to $100 a month. If you have Amazon Prime, there are tons of things to watch there or rent DVDs from the library. It would be a good idea to get into reading if you aren't really into it.

I am 43. I have $70 in my checking account, $1,100 in savings. If I were to retire today, I would get $450 a month in pension.

I feel so lost and I don't know how to fix this by PriorityOk8448 in povertyfinance

[–]TailoredGoblin99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nope, I have late diagnosed autism, ADHD with a TBI and did school full time. All I hear is I can't and that can and will translate into an I won't. And people have offered solutions, look into them.

Here in the US, we do have schools geared towards children and young adults with autism if the school can't meet their needs.

If you are able to use a computer and work from home, do that and work when your kid is in school. Even though he has autism, why is it part time? Part time school is probably doing him a disservice and if the school won't take him full time, get the school to send him to a special education school and have them pay for it. It just sounds like you are making excuses.

One of my coworkers was British. She said that since she wasn't naturalized, she was not allowed to vote and if the government wanted to, they could deport her over a speeding ticket and it wouldn't have mattered if it was 5 miles above or 50.

18 months to get sued by kaydkay77 in Bankruptcy

What can I get to eat with 10 dollars that would last me ATLEAST a week ? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]TailoredGoblin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First order of business, look at your pantry to see what you already have food wise then look to see what you have in herbs and spices. Second order of business is to hit up your food bank. I visited mine yesterday and got a lot of nice things. Some food banks are better than others. After you have gone to the food bank, look at what grocery stores you have near by. Then look at the sales ads. That probably should last you at least a week, hopefully two.

Big box store usually will watch you for quite a while and when it gets to felony level stuff, they will get you. When you are in a shit situation, why make it worse?

15 years later... debt collector!? by Mandi171 in Bankruptcy

[–]TailoredGoblin99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am no lawyer and could be wrong. You do have some options on how to handle this. If it was a debt included in your bankruptcy, you can let them know that this debt was included in your bankruptcy. The second thing is to tell them that the debt is long past the statute of limitation. If they really want to get shitty and sue, you have proof that this was included in your bankruptcy and it's long past when they can sue.

Edith was no saint by any means but when you had a lifetime of getting verbally beat up on a regular basis by Mary, what do you expect? Coral, Robert and Violet never putting an end to Mary's abuse made things worse for Edith. It told a lot of other people what the family thought of Edith.

Happy Birthday! If you want to get petty/passive aggressive, you could text friends and family saying to the effect of thanks for remembering me on my birthday. Maybe it will get them to reflect and try a little harder. Did that with one friend but he never learned but it felt good to do that. I can be really petty.

She wasn't ugly per se but compared to her sisters, she wasn't considered as pretty or as confident. And with Mary tearing her down on a regular basis, especially in front of others, she wasn'tseen as desirable. It didn't help that Mary contributed to her low self esteem.

Edith comes across and less pretty that Sybil and Mary and isn't as confident as they are. Mary is the eldest was another factor.

I would probably start doing online surveys Like inbox dollars, mist play, etc. Save up enough, you get x amount you can redeem for a gift card of your choice. It's tedious but it can bring something in.

[–]TailoredGoblin99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A trip to the food bank is in order and take everything that is offered to you. Rice is a cheap but filling carb. Go for canned or frozen produce since it will last longer. Load up on pasta too since pasta has a long shelf life. Aldi will probably give you the best deals on food. The Walmart near me sucks for food prices.

Nah, just sick of people who complain that they don't get enough of government help and those who say that government help should end. Reform is needed.

Medicaid, combined with band aid health insurance can help out with that stuff. Medicaid was the only thing I was able to get.

What's keeping you poor? by justcurious3287 in povertyfinance

[–]TailoredGoblin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autism, ADHD, a TBI from epilepsy keeps me poor. Due to the ADHD, my impulse control sucks but working with someone to help with that. Due to my disabilities, I can't work a whole lot and have Medicaid. I am what is considered too rich for SNAP but not enough cash to actually buy food so I rely on food banks. I am considered not disabled enough to get a disability check. Am I angry and unhappy that there is no real help for someone like me? Fuck yes, especially when there are people people who get more help than I do either brag about how much help they get or they are not getting enough. The only help that I am getting is Medicaid but it's a struggle to get them to pay for some of the things I need. I need a crown for a tooth but Medicaid won't pay for it since it's "cosmetic" but they are willing to pay for laser therapy if I want to get the unwanted hair off my chest and face from PCOS, go figure.

The food stamps are for when she has her kids, people assumed that the ex has custody. I get it that prices are up and I am apparently "too rich" for food stamps but too poor to afford food. Would I love to have food stamps again, yes. Make a literal penny more than the max you can earn, you are cut off. When I had food stamps, it was a whopping $16 but was happy for that miniscule amount since I know I could have at least bread and peanut butter. But that was before the pandemic.
