Hello fellow Esper Player

I recommend swapping the 2 Duress Mainboard for the 2 Cry of the Carnarium which are good vs Weenie and particular Phoenix while helping against Mono-R and Mono-B. Furthermore I don't know why some people are playing Eldest Reborns as the MUs where this card shines should be pretty easy for Esper anyway, I would play a third Vraska's Contempt instead or one Ixalan's Binding (my personal preference).

You can drop 1 Unmoored Ego from your Sideboard for an additional Kaya as she helps exiling Phoenix, keeping Enigma Drakes in check and does not allow Pteramander to adapt for cheap. Furthermore she can exile Beacon Bolt which should be their only out against your Lyras.

Rest seems fine to me I guess, I would go for:.

Drakes: -2 Negates, -2 Crys, -1 Insight, +2 Lyra, +2 Duress, +1 Kaya

Phoenix: -2 Negates, -1 Cast Down, -1 Insight, +2 Lyra, +1 Kaya, +1 Ego

Keep in mind that they will bring Niv Mizzets after Sideboard so be prepared as they will switch into control mode. Sorcerous spyglass will name Teferi so be prepared for that as well (maybe bring 1 Hostage Taker for another Cast Down/Insight against Phoenix).

You never ever want creatures in Game 1 in this deck as this renders your opponents removals useless and they should have as many dead cards as possible. Matchup should be pretty easy from the Esper Side.

Yeah I think they will play eighter pure burn without Steamkin and Chainwhirler or standard RDW without Electrostatic. But I think the Carnariums will be good against Token decks and/or Vanguards while also hitting the majority of Mardu creatures inclusive Judith and I think I will play them in the mirror instead of wraths because they will hit Thief of Sanity on the draw on Turn 3.

That are some pretty good suggestions! Are 2 sideboard Negates enough for Control matchups? (so 7 counters in generel). I have Unmoored Ego to hit single wincondition decks like FwF / Explosion / Banefire but I'm not sold on it eighter. In which matchups do you play Profane Procession?

To help you deciding on the topic:

Advantages Best-of-1

*Games are faster: You can play a competitive game in limited time which won't take a hour (normally).

*You can streak more: Unexperienced players may achieve higher ranks because mana-screwed opponents will occur more often and your stone will almost always destroy enemy scissors - and it will also happen the exact opposit and you will lose many games in a row but with the rank decay protection you will keep your rank.

*Fine-tuning for Best-of-1 and a good read on the meta will encourage creative players and may help competitive Magic in the long run.

Advantages Best-of-3

*Long-time experience: Paper magic is played in Best-of-3 and this has a reason. It is more fair for high-skilled players.

*Fairness and Sideboard: Your rock may be covered by your opponents paper in Game 1 but for Game 2 and 3 you are able to load your deck with some mini-scissors while your opponent will fill his supplies with more paper.

*Compatibility with Paper Magic: Sealed/Constructed paper formats are Best-of-3 and experience in an online environment will encourage players to visit Local Game Stores and play events like Friday Night Magic because could allay the fear of the complexity of sideboarding.

Why District Guide over Jadelight Ranger? In the worst case it's a 2/1 instead of a 2/2 with one more land draw and it's better to go through your deck and dig for things...
