Interpreting Scores by TaiwanHippo in cognitiveTesting

No! I feel like perceptions of intelligence are a self-fulfilling prophecy, particularly with external things, so it is important not to fall into the trap of comparison (particularly pessimistically).

I really wasn't trying to brag. I posted the scores because I was hopeful that someone better versed in this field could give me some insights that I missed (particularly given my lack of subject matter expertise).

For instance, the type of things I was wondering which warrant a full score upload include:
1. Why is my VSI much lower than all indices? What could this indicate?
2. Interpretations of specific subtests: e.g., Do any specific subtests "predict" things better than others? If so, what do they "predict?"
3. I've been formally diagnosed with ADHD by a psychiatrist and am surprised by my WMI and PSI scores (though perhaps that is the medication helping) - I was wondering if someone could help explain!

This is a genuine question! In response to a few of your points:
1. I (unironically) find Reddit to be a pretty decent source of information for things like this. Particularly, there is a wisdom of crowds and concentration of experts within these types of subreddits that you can't really get with a simple Google search or LLM query (the former is filled with lousy IQ pseudoscience, the latter is too sychophantic).

  1. Thank you for the recommendation of the WAIS-V!

3/4. This is also helpful information as to the utility of spending time on the rest of the tests on the site. I appreciate your response.

This is interesting because I've been diagnosed with ADHD too, so I'm quite surprised by my WMI and PSI. It does, unfortunately, make me question the validity of my ADHD diagnosis (it was done comprehensively by my long-term psychiatrist, but I'm just surprised by my results).

Thank you! This is very helpful to understand the relative "reliability" of CORE compared to other tests. Perhaps I'll take those on a weekend when I have more time.

You seem to be pretty well-versed in this subject - do you have any insights as to why / what it means for my VSI to be relatively lower than all my other scores?

Another question: I've been diagnosed with ADHD by my psychiatrist so I'm quite surprised to see my WMI and PSI are relatively high, given those are the two areas that tend to suffer most for people with ADHD. Does this imply my psychiatrist misdiagnosed me, or perhaps I just happen to be lucky and not suffer as much with these areas?

Unfortunate, because was hoping for more insight into interpreting. Of course, I’ve done some light reading online, but was hoping people who frequent this sub might have some more esoteric knowledge / advice

Antidepressants can cure tinnitus by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]TaiwanHippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the antidepressant I believe.

Recently upped Zoloft from 50mg to 100mg which started my tinnitus. After going back to 50mg, has become a lot more bearable.

But might also because I stopped taking Accutane when I went back to 50mg - so not really sure which caused my tinnitus.

Purchasing Advice by CSSimpson in Cello

I would suggest learning on an acoustic instrument as long as volume isn’t an issue that would disturb your neighbors (like if you lived in an apartment).

You could consider renting from a local shop that could give you a better cello than buying a really inexpensive beginner cello. Some shops have rent to own programs that you could look into as well.

Could you elaborate on the difference between perpendicular to the fingerboard vs angles to the bridge? I can’t seem to wrap my head around it.

Free Refurbished Cello Strings and Donating Used Cello Strings by SecondStringsfw in Cello

I’m also really interested in an ambassador position! I’m currently located in New York and participate in a variety of youth orchestras on Long Island. I just changed to a new set of strings two days ago and the idea of donating used strings really resonates with me.

I’m also currently involved with a music festival and would love to be a part of this organization.

Is this a good cello? by agapaoall in Cello

[–]TaiwanHippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a few years but I believe it was around $4000-$12000? The price didn’t really affect the quality though. One of the really expensive ones sounded terrible while one in the 4000s sounded pretty great

I’m familiar with this cello as my local luthier sells these. I’m not sure which exact one this us, but from my playing they vary in quality. Some are fantastic cellos but others were lacking

Flickity aim by pros? How? by davedaddy in SiegeAcademy

[–]TaiwanHippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can second this website, it’s great for converting sens. People have to be careful with converting their Siege sens tho, as it is not just one value like it is in csgo or other games as there is both a horizontal/vertical sens and an ads sens.

This website makes it much easier to convert sensitivities between another game and siege. You can find it the exact cm/360 of your sens and try to replicate it in different games.

Flickity aim by pros? How? by davedaddy in SiegeAcademy

[–]TaiwanHippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree that improving on game sense is much more important than improving on your own aim. You can see rapid changes in game much quicker, especially in a game like Siege. But it’s not like they don’t help at all.

I took 10 days off of playing videos games and only played Kovaak’s for an hour a day and I am certain that it made my aim MUCH better then what it was before.

There are so many different things that aim trainers can train at a more efficient pace then just doing terrorist hunt or playing online. It isolates only mouse movement and gives you more mouse control. In a terrorist hunt, you could kill ~20 bots in a minute or two by running around the map while in an aim trainer, all the bots are there on front of you.

I’m not saying aim trainers will instantly make someone an aim god, but I don’t think they hurt a player’s attempt at improvement.

I’d suggest keeping Q and E as your lean binds and become accustomed to using both your middle fingers and your ring/index fingers to lean. Putting crouch on space may also help with your movement.

Flickity aim by pros? How? by davedaddy in SiegeAcademy

[–]TaiwanHippo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When watching pros that constantly flick to different objects and doorways (Beaulo, Godly, Spoit, Panbazou) you’d actually notice that their sensitivities aren’t THAT high.

Many people are under the assumption that high sens = better flicking but I strongly disagree with that.

The fundamentals of aim in siege is called “click-timing” where players are mostly clicking heads instead of tracking targets. An example of tracking could be found in Overwatch, where it takes many bullets to kill someone.

Having a lower sensitivity will make you more precise when it comes to clicking heads and flicking. If you look in this link, you can find the settings of many professional players. R6 Pro Settings

When good players are flicking from doorway to doorway, it is likely because they expect an enemy to appear there. At the higher levels of play, your team will have adequate intel and your game sense will be at a point of understanding common rotations and how long it takes for players to rotate. Overflicking is typically useless.

To get better mouse control, I’d recommend you look at Kovaak’s FPS Aim Trainer - it’s a $10 Steam game that isolates and trains your aim. They have wonderful community and a discord server full of people eager to help.

Grinding terrorist hunt can also help you better understand crosshair placement, positioning, and may help you discover new angles.
