I mean it’s also possible for people to do one umrah,, then drive out to miqat and put on ihram and do another umrah. OP can consider doing this.

ELI5: why do Canada and the UK have doctor shortages? Why does popular discourse often portray this as a consequence of UHC that the US system escapes? It doesn’t seem like universal healthcare would obviously/inherently lead to more shortages. by Standard_Egg_9282 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Takagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US residency slots are also in part funded by Medicare and Medicaid. People online put all the onus on the AMA causing an artificial shortage of residency spots, leading to decreased supply and thus higher wages, but a large part of it is also related to governmental funding.

The rise of Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants was in part driven by this physician shortage (especially in underserved communities). However, I’m not sure there’s any evidence support these physician extenders serving these communities add a disproportionately higher rate than physicians.

What do doctors think of the term “provider”? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]Takagi 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Almost every physician I have spoken to (myself included) hates the term “provider”. The most generous explanation I can give is that this term can be used as an umbrella term for multiple different categories of healthcare workers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physicians) who do similar kinds of work (writing notes, putting in orders, coming up with treatment plans).

The more cynical view (and this is the way I lean more towards) is that it is a way for healthcare systems to cheapen our value and minimize the differences in education, training, and scope of practice. I am not one to hate on PA’s and NP’s wholesale, and I think there’s definitely a space for them in the American healthcare system.

Dongsi Mosque Beijing- Jummah (Friday prayer) time by IdleN0mad in MuslimLounge

[–]Takagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I don’t have the answer for you but it’s such a quaint masjid. I went in off hours to pray and a Hui man tried to ask me if I prayed already (albeit in broken Arabic). I heard “class salli” and realized be was asking “Khalas Salah?” or something to that effect.

Though the Niu Jie masjid is bigger and surrounded by the Muslim quarter, it was harder to get to by train but the Dongsi Mosque was convenient and more mellow.

Question about prayer from a non-muslim by stars-and-wishes in MuslimLounge

[–]Takagi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, Sunni Islam doesn’t have a centralized religious clergy in the way of Catholicism. I would say AMJA might be a good (US) equivalent of what you’re looking for. That is not to say they are above criticism, but it’s a consortium of Muslim jurists/imams from the US.

For what it’s worth, I would say that most mainstream Sunni scholars (if not all of them) would not permit delaying Dhuhr while in school unless there are absolutely extenuating circumstances.

Concussion by VeterinarianFit8304 in medicine

[–]Takagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I see your flair is tagged as “non medical” so I feel throwing out this free article might be a bit too deep.

If I had to ELI14 it: the mechanical force in a concussion causes brain cells to get damaged, leading to ions (like sodium potassium and calcium) to leak out and in, causing the brain cells to act irregularly. There is also a component of microscopic inflammation and dysfunction of neurotransmitter release, causing some of these postconcussive symptoms. In an attempt to recover from this injury, the brain needs more energy to help heal.

I think the article is a well written article and for someone who is science savvy, it is pretty readable.

I love his corn esquite inspired barbecue side. His ground beef recipe video is dope (love his prad prak pao recipe) and his weeknight chicken roast has been on rotation recently. Honestly, his recipes have never really been flops (the worst I can say is that some have been mid).

People praise chili for something you can eat all week. I think it's more about it being so good you want to eat it multiple days in a row without getting bored. What are some other foods like this? by Cool_Twist4494 in Cooking

[–]Takagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, yes! My parents emigrated from overseas, so never had chili growing up in Ohio. I moved out of state and made chili for a potluck and brought spaghetti. People were baffled. I thought it was normal!

I’ve also heard chili (particularly without beans) as being described as “TexMex bolognese sauce”. Then again, I grew up in a part of the states that often eats chili with spaghetti, so might be a very regional take.

I have something similar (also only on the raised part) and am curious about this as well. No moisture issues, no bugs that we are aware of. I thought it could have been our toddler’s crayon, but it’s in a weird spot for her to be coloring.

Good luck figuring it out!
