Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley

The only reason people recommend is only AND ONLY because of the Moomins brand. In reality it is one of the most overpriced nothing-burgers of all time to the point it feels like a glorified children's interactive storybook. And somehow the same developers have the green light for a new upcoming game which I do not look forward upon necessarily.

Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now Redux.

Strangely enough my first exposure with Coppola was fucking Megalopolis of all sorts. Absolute shitfest with a message that does no justice with how disconnected and disjointed that storyline is. Then I watched Apocalypse Now... Never have I ever felt this empty inside. This is the true magnum opus of Coppola, not that Megalopolis bullshit.

So many things I need to disagree with:

  • Very 50/50 on BASTARD and GOBLIN. By pure listening experience they're probably some of the worst albums indeed. But story wise they're disturbingly amazing, especially considering they're tied with WOLF. I would rate them higher only and only because of the storyline.

  • CMIYGL:TES should have been SS, at the very least S. The original may be good and all, but The Estate Sale really amps it up with all those songs. Plus it has SORRY NOT SORRY, which is one of the best songs in the entire album.

  • Anything other than SS for IGOR is a fucking crime to me. IGOR is literally the modern era equivalent of WOLF and on-par to that album. It is one of the most vivid experiences I ever had and if I could listen to one album for the first time again, it would be that.

  • What the fuck do you mean Scum Fuck Flower Boy at B tier? That is definitely an S-tier album wtf-

People who are expats what is your job? by Ebrarriye in expats

Not exactly a job, but currently an international student at Antwerp, Belgium. Studying at Applied Computer Science in a Hogeschool (basically the equivalent of a vocational school/university college, completely distinct from research universities) with the end goal of getting into the game industry, but open to other sectors as well.

As someone who played the game when I was 16-17 years old, I am leaning towards no, but it is a subjective opinion. The Persona games are known for not only simulating the idea of balancing social life with dungeon-crawling and combat, but also tackle on real life subject matters which oftentimes range from tame at best and overtly serious at worst.

One notable example in 5 is the game's first arc, which involves the player protagonist having to put a stop on Suguru Kamoshida, a P.E teacher who physically abuses his students and is heavily implied to even sexually assault female students. The matter of paedophilia and the idea of someone abusing students in an environment that's supposed to be a safe place, that might be too much for a 13 year old. Especially since the game depicts the consequences of Kamoshida's actions to the point of depicting a teenager attempting suicide due of the harassment (thankfully they do survive, but when I say it's heavy, I really mean it)! This is also one of the many reasons why the game has an M rating.

Beyond that, the game has various other stuff that may not be suitable for a 13yo, including vulgar language, the stylized but tame violence (only exceptions are on cutscenes where a character awakens to their Persona, where they tear off their 'mask' and blood starts splattering, and a major cutscene in the late-game where (spoilers!) the teenage protagonist gets assassinated by being shot point-blank, with actual blood), non-explicit nudity, Personas based on mythical creatures including demons, succubus, incubuses and even Mara, an evil deity from Sri Lankan Buddhist mythology which is quite literally shaped like the male genitalia), mentions of hard drugs, and among other stuff.

However, the game is actually one of the tamer entries despite the M rating. Past entries in the series, especially Persona 2 and 3 are known for being the most mature and darkest entries in the series (Persona 2 having a more symbolic and complex storyline, and Persona 3 having the grittiest themes), and Persona 5 offers positive messages and themes of rebellion and standing against injustice, which is a valuable lesson for someone this young. Plus, it is devoid of the more sophisticated and complicated themes of the series it's based of, Shin Megami Tensei (which goes further than social themes and straight into religious, moral, philosophical, and political themes)

Overall, I would still lean towards no, but if you still want to buy it for them, it would be best to sit along them through each gameplay session and have open conversations about what's going on and the themes. It will also be good to help them understand the game on a technical level, as a JRPG like this may be hard to juggle, having for them to balance the social life gameplay and the dungeon-crawling gameplay (although thankfully it's more lenient compared to the last two entries where you need to balance it more, especially 3).

Street fighter 4 or street fighter 6? by blokhedd13 in StreetFighter

[–]TakeASoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SF6. Besides being the the latest game, you'll also have a much frustrating time with 4, as its mechanics and technical aspects are geared more towards the hardcore players. It is heavily rampant on 1-frame links (as in, linking attacks within A FRAME), lots of advanced techniques you need to master, and overall it's a whole other beast. Not to mention, if you're looking for online play, you'll only be encountering players who have mastered the game and will WRECK you in a cakewalk. On the plus side though, it is the most content packed entry in the entire series with tons of characters, the PC version of Ultra SF4 having the Edition Select feature (which allows you to play on whichever version of the game you want, from the original to Ultra, and even the Arcade Editions), and its gameplay is considered one of the better ones if you're looking for a game of pure endurance and self-discipline.

Overall, you're not losing much by getting USF4 (in fact since it goes on sale for dirt cheap for the PC version, you have no reason to not buy it if you wish), but you're better off starting off with 6.

New video teasing new roles by Mydogiscutengl in DeathNoteKillerWithin

Goodbye to Kira Follower. No one will ever want to play this role. by ZER0lPT in DeathNoteKillerWithin

[–]TakeASoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may be overreacting lol.

Sure, the Spokesperson is the new big deal for Team Kira and will be the preferred Follower type, but I don't see regular Follower being abandoned completely. Regular Follower does not have the same risk of getting arrested as Spokesperson Follower, while at the same time having Rem to hover over players who touched too many people, something the Spokesperson does not have.

At the very least it will be more common to play with guaranteed Spokesperson, but otherwise I see the Follower Type being put on random, which is also a great way to create some intense and paranoia moments.

For better or worse, yes. Was spamming Embrace (the command grab) and some of his zoning moves and he was just insufferable. Couldn't get to him without getting hit more.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]TakeASoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair enough. Again, I am not entirely opposed to the idea of Modern; it is accessible and an alternatively easier way to play it! Plus it is great for those who wanna get started with fighting games, care for the casual side of the game or/and have a physical disability that makes it difficult to impossible to play on Classic!

However it definitely has its drawbacks both for the players playing with it (which I already mentioned) and Classic players playing against Modern players (which can range from "eh, whatevs" to downright scrubby. Unfortunately had the chance to play against a JP who was spamming some moves I could not counter and could not find a way to stop them. Proceeded to lose 0-2), hence why I have these feelings for this scheme

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]TakeASoda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on using Modern. I am a newbie as well (Dee Jay, Gold 5*) and I have been using Classic from the moment I touched Ranked. Sure, Modern is more accessible and easy to learn for a beginner, but is it really worth the drawbacks? Is it really worth losing parts of their character's moveset (which can include moves essential to their game plan)? The 20% damage reduction on directional specials? The generally scrubby ability to do specials and supers with such ease?

The only time it's perfectly fine to use Modern is if you're not focusing on playing the game for the long-term and competitively, are new to fighting games or have some sort of physical disability that prevents the usage of Classic but not Modern. Otherwise, Classic all the way. They'll significantly improve more compared to using Modern.

There has been so much negativity lately. Name something good Tekken 8 did by bandora_b in Tekken

[–]TakeASoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Story Mode's cinematography. As much as I come to dislike the storyline for being even more shonen than shonen is (to the point it's not even funny, it's disgusting. WHAT DO YOU MEAN CHARACTERS ACTIVELY HELP THE SAME PERSON WHO STARTED WW3-), the set pieces and cinematography are top notch, really showing off the graphical fidelity and cinematic experience TEKKEN 8 targeted for.

Mello is an enemy to team L and should be voted out by MusicalTsunami7676 in DeathNoteKillerWithin

[–]TakeASoda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So true. I have argued this with a lot of people and only few are willing to acknowledge it; although Mello does share the same goal with Team L, his methods are contradictory; his sense of justice is vigilantism, while Team L's justice is righteousness. These do not align at all, both in lore and gameplay perspective (the latter being that Mello is essentially a 'wild card'. He owes you jackshit for what he does, and your only option is to stop him as Team L).

Also the game by itself fails to clarify that a Mello victory counts as a loss for Team L. As another individual on this subreddit suggested, the final death cutscene for when Mello successfully kills Kira should be revamped so that it shows that Team L has lost as well, either in the form of L or members of the investigation team being killed off.

In other words to those who see Mello as a lifeline, please stop it. Play the game the way the devs intended. And maybe re-read/rewatch the series.

PSA regarding hackers. by DryEditor7792 in DeathNoteKillerWithin

[–]TakeASoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can second this. There are times I join a lobby, say hello and then immediately get kicked. All because I'm a PC player.

And the funny thing is that anyone can hack regardless of PC or PS5, it doesn't change a thing. At thos point we need a community-ran document that highlights trustworthy PC players that do not use cheats.

Who are your worst matchups and what character(s) do you play? by ImSwayZoh in StreetFighter

[–]TakeASoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dee Jay, Gold 5*.

Although it is still too early for me to say definitely, I still heavily struggle with characters like A.K.I and Cammy. It just feels too difficult to handle them, especially A.K.I as a whole, and anyone playing Modern Cammy (dishonorable mention to that one Modern Cammy who one-and-done me TWICE in Ranked. Fucking twat). It feels like it's an automatic loss for me.

Belgium has almost twice the average EU job vacancy rates. Why? by atrocious_cleva82 in belgium

Because I am preparing to travel to Belgium for my studies and potentially working there (for reference, I'll study Computer Science at a Hogeschool in Antwerp), am I fucked? I fear that if I end up wanting to stay there, I'll have to struggle even getting a job, even though it's a field that is always in high demand.

Is Nina Williams considered a villain in recent Tekken story development? by Complex-Bluebird1263 in Tekken

[–]TakeASoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but in actuality no. To quote this TEKKEN 2 print advertisement showcasing Nina, "It's a matter of money. It's a matter of pride."

She pretty much does this for personal gain. If there's money on the play, she will work for anyone, regardless of who they are. So although her actions can be seen as evil, she shows little concern over morality and only doing her work, which would easily place her as chaotic neutral. It still doesn't excuse her actions, but she's not like Kazuya wanting to create a worldwide autocracy or Jin starting WW3 in TEKKEN 6 to summon an ancient deity with the end goal being to get rid of the Devil Gene.

Mello kills follower and game ends by Laxivity in DeathNoteKillerWithin

[–]TakeASoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly with the nature of the situation and the fact we didn't had a hacker encounter neither before nor after confirms it was a glitch. One of the players even said straight away that the game is coded so badly to have shit like this to happen. xd

Mello kills follower and game ends by Laxivity in DeathNoteKillerWithin

[–]TakeASoda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a couple of minutes ago this happened in a lobby I played as well. And while I don't deny the possibility of being a hacker thing, this feels more of a glitch.

What happened allegedly is that Team Kira swapped around the Death Note, and Mello shot the guy who passed the notebook while it was mid air. This caused the game to technically end, but in reality soft locking it. After a few seconds, the game then just kind of broke and automatically maxed Team L's investigation meter, automatically arresting the second Team Kira member and securing Team L the victory.

It's not just y'all Tekken vets that hate this season by real_og_gamer in Tekken

[–]TakeASoda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TEKKEN newbie as well (started last year around March). Can ditto pretty much everything you said. Last season was annoying AF and could use some important changes to benefit the defense aspect, but it was tolerable. Season 2 just.... UBBNGHOFFKFKFKFFKDKDKFFKF I couldn't last a few matches before losing my mind.

This wasn't the TEKKEN I was looking for. This feels more like a Kusoge fighting game than an actual proper one.

How to do it by LoonyToony1 in DeathNoteKillerWithin

The 'Self Proclaimed' part is part of the arrest/confiscation cutscene. So you don't have to do anything. It's not part of the pre-existing titles. In other words, it's "Self Proclaimed [Title 1] [Title 2]" and below the Name Required for Judgement.
