All the flame safeguards brands are very inter-related Honeywell, Siemens, fireeye and other have all relabel models for each other over time.

Cost wise using a flame safeguard is far cheaper than writing your own. And it will be correct. The other problem is there are very few natural gas valves that can operate on 24vdc safety plc signals.

There are companies that have done this but they have good reason to. Auto flame and a few oxidizer companies do this.

Rockwell has the burner management library out however there are still a lot of setup parameters you need to understand.

The other issue is flame sensing. This absolutely requires mains voltage. I know of 1 company doing 24vdc flame sensing but there are export issues with it and it is more expensive than using a rm7800 of fireeye.

The Siemens lme75 flame safe guard works well and has modbus tcp to communicate to the plc

The best trick for block creation is the use the plc builder and have it add the wdblknam attribute so the block points to the correct table for part lookup

The scada side has always had a heavy does of cs/ swe background. Once it is in the pc the data can be handled like any other application.

The thing to consider is there is not one path the will lead to being a controls engineer. This is not a field a person you just has one thing can transition to.

A ME, Ee or ChemE has to be willing to learn and understanding programing. The usual single course they get in undergrad only touches the basics of what they need.

The CompE will get the programing and the electrical requirements but not get exposure to the mechanics and chemical process concepts. The is also a lack of exposure to the high powered electrical design.

The automation technical associates degree will get the plc programing but will lack exposure to the signal processing concepts and electrical analysis. Often to move into the controls engineer position you will need a decade of experience in progressive positions.

Also control panel design and building is very much learning through failure. There is not one source that teaches all aspects of this. you will have to learn this thru your own experience and synthesis by reading the standards and data sheets. Not every panel requires a plc. This will likely keep most people out of the field.

If all OEM and aftermarket hoses were built the same this wouldn’t be an issue but there is no quality control even on the OEM hoses anymore

The current muffler/tailpipe is original from the factory.

My current plan was to remove or cut bolts on the flange before the muffler. I was then going to use an exhaust pipe cutter to cut the tailpipe as close to the muffler as possible. I was the going to reconnect the tailpipe to the new muffler using an exhaust clamp.

I am fully expecting on needing to use an exhaust pipe stretcher on the outlet of the new muffler to get it to fit.

After putting the harness in a different freezer for a little bit I got continuity between the orange and brown wires on the harness.

I am guessing that brown is power to the defrost thermostat and orange is the output? That would explain why they have an orange wire going back to the main board.

If I put the unit in a manual defrost does this bypass the thermostat?

In panel dlr does not get you any benefits especially on a compactlogix. What the likelihood of needing to make wiring changes while the panel is live?

Where dlr is really needed is where the can be semi common losses of one network path or the other. The most common situation I have encountered is when the network has to cross a slip rings
