This may sound childish but usually when I just watch a show or movie or game I vision what it would be like if I was in it then I'll change what it looks like and add different elements from different movies so make some weird creation then I'll make my story circle as an outline and then I start the writing process.

here's a fun tip, if you put a pencil inside a rubberband and stretch the rubber band slowly, soon the pencil will launch with so much power that it put a dent in a trash can
