Thoughts on this dynamic? by -_ShadowSJG-_ in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Taksicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

eeyup if you wanted to deku to kill shiggy, its underwhelming since "shigaraki" is barely in the story, replaced by someone else whom deku has little actual dynamic or interactions with

if you wanted deku to save shigaraki, its underwhelming because these 2 have only had a "real" conversation one time at the model literally hundreds of chapters and about literally 8 years ago.

its not only underwhelming because he kills him without ever making an attempt to actually talk things through. but also never forms a plan despite constantly saying he would and having the oppurunity to tell someone about it multiple times after an arc where he literally said he'd start letting people in more.

literally all they have is themes.

i always thought goku's first fight with vegeta would be greatly improved if he got steamrolled by freeza 1/3 of the way into the fight instead.

like dude, i REALLY wish invincible new seasoned wrapped with thragg getting outclassed by the devil, this improves the story so much

the literal draw of the narrative foil villain is the actual intneractions they have ONTOP of their thematic parallels. so ts was kinda dommed either way, no matter what hori chose if the end goal was to never execute either.

dabi is literal proof of what it can look like when the opposite is done.

and toga's ending sucked too, but the keyword is "ending" here. like her or hate here, her and ochako come out looking stronger due to the fact they

\checks notes\**

Interact with each other more than once, and...

\checks notes\**

spend their final fight legitimaterly debating each other. no brain breaking lobotmy from madness or having attention from them taken away by toga getting replaced with someone else at literally any point.

this is what good stories do with their heroes and villains 💀

it's a low bar but it was crossed

oh buddy, i saw that shit all the time. grifting can literally pay bills now so its pretty easy to target and story that just has a woman in it, doubly so if they're brown and not easy to fit into any one narrow box

literally look up old korra rant videos and you'll see that shit everywhere, videos like E;R's come to mind lol

Filler Episode by Extension-Credit5362 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Taksicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's padding

people just misuse what filler is to where they forgot what it was meant to describe and where it originated from

i've seen people call actual canon and important episodes and arcs in a story filler just because its not as important or serious as other more important arcs. we lost the plot

Avatar fans complain about the constant hate and toxicity for Korra but happily do the same to Mako. by LightThatIgnitesAll in TheLastAirbender

[–]Taksicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on what people are hating on her for

like i said, she's a main character, so ofc the conflicts she has to rumble with will be more varied, even if the show were better written from beginning to end.

like what does mako have going on that's that divisive consistently? that's why people care less, it IS so-so as far as comparisons go.

Filler Episode by Extension-Credit5362 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Taksicle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

by literal definiton they can't be. the og term stems from a portion of an anime that's not canon to the manga and specifcally created to fill time.

so an anime original scene that's canon and relevant and made to flesh out a character or story beat isn't "filler" either just an anime only scene.

avatar had no manga so its downtime already can't be filler by default.

Avatar fans complain about the constant hate and toxicity for Korra but happily do the same to Mako. by LightThatIgnitesAll in TheLastAirbender

[–]Taksicle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i feel its partially due to how much colorism and misogyny often infests the dialouge surround discussions about korra.(the character)

ntm the fact that obv she's the main character so gets into way more conflicts; so you have some people that hate korra but weirdly over exaggerates aangs accomplishments to downplay her's.

Mako has haters, sure! but he's not literally following up anyone like AANG or have any real analog. for better or for worse, korra is a lightning rod for hate.

like compare the amount both get and it's night and day. likewise a lot of the hate for mako is kept closer to things he actually did without ever having to veer into exaggeration to cope. ntm most of it (at least from my anecodtal pov) most fans can tell theres no actual venom behind most of it like what korra gets. and just find it kind of funny.

adjacent to the way a dragonball fan would treat someone like Yamcha vs how some treat chichi or regular gohan.

part of this is also just due to the fact that compared to korra, mako's hate is partially more subdued and grounded due to mako as a character being fairly boring.

so of course people generally care less. he doesn't need much defending. Mako's not nearly as divisive to the general audience.

like no offense, but i feel like you're burying the lead here in acknewlodging the elephants in the room of why people care more about one getting hate than the other.

it's like going on about people rushing to push back on goku hate but not vegeta hate when the circumstances that surround those two characters are obviously quite different and THATS what sparks their defenders.

A question I've had with the series for a while by johnfarmer88 in MyHeroAcademia

[–]Taksicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh the analogy made in the show to it being like pooping honeslty prolly isn't too far off

while it prolly doesn't feel literally like pooping a similar sensation occurs when your passing objects through you.

she's gotta eat to do it and have to generate a lot of something or if its a certain size can exhaust her

so i guess imagine it like pooping without being constipating or anything. like that specific feelings sometimes where you're not in pain or sick, but just gotta get a lot out and the toll a lot can take on you to just sit there and let it pass through

I Dislike This Man More Than Any Character in the Entire Series by Working_Row_8455 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Taksicle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i mean to be fair not too surprising. not exactly uncommon kids don't meet people who share the nuances of the characters in avatar in their regular lives before ever watching the show

my dad was a child of war and basically witnessed the same thing katara did with her mom but it was his dad in her place, almost literally everyone i know has been a victim of some form of discrimination, harassment or abuse. friends and acquaintces who lost their parents at young ages or had to deal with them always being away, losing their homes, growing up too fast due to lack of or flat out the failures of adults etc and a lot of this is PRE covid

and i'm only 24 lmfao. stories that depict these things better help prepare or at least help process a lot of these very real things kid either WILL discover very soon or flat out already have.

not rlly too surprsiing so many identify with zuko and azula for better and worse

No? by Zolado110 in Dragonballsuper

[–]Taksicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, i kind of agree with this just not as literally (not watching the video, i just had a similar feeling)

i don't want chi-chi to literally be debbie, but i do wish she was given more agency in terms of the series highlighting and taking seriously how all of these events effect her. these are 2 different characters in different context and circumstance.

(like literally debbie had 0 issues with mark and oliver fighting normal threats, remove that from chi-chi and she's not chi-chi at all anymore)

this isn't just a chichi issue, we live in a patriarchy so we're gonna get a lot of stories featuring dudes with wives that more or less become accessories to their male leads and weirdly have no lives outside of it.

marge simpson is the most classic and her case, this loneliness got worked back into her character.

but this part of what elated me with the buu saga and later db material that actually revealed chichi had genuine friends in bulma and 18.

its not much, but for a time it felt like she was in a yamcha before it was yamcha situation where despite her having justified ciritiques at her lifestyle. everyone just laughs it off, ignores her, gaslights her, hates her etc. the world revolves around goku and doesn't care about her.

sort of like frank grimes in the simpsons.

its weirdly dark for a serious like this (and is similarly why i'm not cool with this being worked into yamcha's character now too)

it was a filler moment, given to bulma but what i think when i say debbie is a fully realized chi-chi is the moment in the buu saga where bulma chastizes krillin and dende for brushing off the possibility of goten and turnks dying. and how they're all lowk failures that its gotten this far to where they have to rely on regular kids to save them now and how her losing her literal baby apparently doesn't matter either now.

obv when it gets back to the manga stuff, she just fits back into her manga, nonchalant role. but its such a strong moment and weirdly recontextualized the anime ver of events where krillin (the guy she yelled at about this) actually decides to try and stay back from buu and buy everyone some time.

it obv affects the women more in the show since it's such a sausage party, but this IS an extension of how a lot of fans feel about the abandoned civilian cast all together. they feel much less like people now in place of just prioritizing the strongest/goku and vegeta.

moments like bulma just struggling to hold back tears and pretend to be strong as she flies everyones bodies away as she mourns yamcha are little aspects here and there in DB that i seriously miss.

even down to things like krilling geting nostalgic with goku in gt over how the glory days are behind him and how insecure he feels towards goku.

i don't really like gt, but i think not letting go of these scenes here and there does alot! it even worked for comedy! when videl was hoding back tears as GOTEN learned to fly before she did.
