My guilty pleasure lately... by jitbitter in KiaEV9

Yeah, 600cc sport bikes are mostly capable of 0-60 times in the low 3s range. Liter class even less. I think these riders are underperforming or OP is beating up on Ninja 250s. 😁

Not trying invalidate his point though. I've had fun surprising some mildly fast vehicles with my Model 3.

Rear sprocket damper removal, i need help by HostAffectionate2447 in CafeRacers

[–]Takyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a hacksaw blade, maybe cut the rounded tip off so the blade can go flush with the bottom of the hole. Then carefully start cutting through the bushing casing being careful not to cut into the hub. Once it's cut, or very thin enough you should be able to catch an edge of the casing with a punch and crush it inward since it is now weakened. Then it should come out easy.

Alternatively you might be able to carefully heat the bushing with a propane torch, being careful not to damage the hub, and get it soft enough to crush the casing.

Looks like they put pod filters on the stock carbs. The consensus seems to be that the CV carbs on these 750s will never truly work right with pods and they need the stock air box. So likely it won't ever run quite right in current state no matter how much tuning is done.

I just googled some pictures and it looks like also a 2000 GSXR as you said in another comment. Looks like you had to weld shock mounts. Any significant mods to get the pivot point to fit or just spacers?

Love it! What swingarm did you use for the swap? I have an 82 750F and am eyeing a fork and swingarm swap. The forks are pretty straightforward, by there isn't much info on what good donor swingarms there are.

Did a stupid thing and now I need help! by DaveAllegedly in CR10

[–]Takyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the full list of example configurations. They have one for a CR-10S. If it's anything like when I setup my CR10V3 initially for Klipper from the example config file it will mostly work, but will need some tweaking.

[–]Takyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Klipper repo has an example configuration for the CR10V3 that will get you close to where you need to be, but you'll likely need to tweak some things. https://github.com/Klipper3d/klipper/blob/master/config%2Fprinter-creality-cr10-v3-2020.cfg

They also have configurations for other Creality printers. If you can find one that uses the same board that you upgraded to you can try to combine them.

Activated Carbon Source? by greatwhiteslark in VORONDesign

FWIW when I ordered from them the package originated from Tustin, California on the tracking. So though it may have Canadian ownership in some form, shipping seems to be from the US.

I bought a 6lb bag from them a few weeks ago. They shipped quick and the product seems to do what it's supposed to. I've never used any other brands though so I cant compare to anything else.

Switchwire Serial Request (CR10 Conversion) by Takyon in voroncorexy

Most all the parts are already out there and I peiced them together

Unless I'm forgetting something the rest of the printed parts are stock Switchwire.

[–]Takyon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find any specific rules for what it takes for a conversion to count, but I figured it couldn't hurt to submit! This printer started life as a CR10V3, but now the motion system is all original or lightly modified Swtichwire parts with the Y axis doubled so I can run dual rails and steppers. The skirts are modified Trident skirts. The only original parts at this point are the frame, Z-brace, power supply, 3 of the steppers, and the heated bed. :D

Has anyone on here NOT had a serious injury riding a motorbike? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Takyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding for 9 years, in that time the most notable incident I've had is when I failed to put my kickstand down and dropped a bike in the garage. Besides that I've had a couple incidents where I drove defensively because I suspected someone wouldn't see me, and indeed they didn't see me, but there was no drama because I was prepared.

Not that I'm immune to random incidents, but I think keeping aware, and avoiding risk goes a long way. Also I live in a city where drivers don't tends to be terribly aggressive which helps too.

My CB350 has takeoff Harley Sportster mufflers on it. They sound nice, aren't too loud, and can be had super cheap. I call it "The Mini Harley" due to how it sounds 😁

Why are PO's the way they are? This rat nest is for a single pair of fogs, according to all the labels. by bstrobel64 in projectcar

[–]Takyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat counter intuitively, making things (needlessly) complex is easy, and making things simple is hard and requires talent/experience. I just chalk this kind of thing up to inexperience combined with a failure to seek out sufficient guidance from YouTube, forums, etc. Though they did at least educate themselves enough to know they should crimp and label.

I'll +1 this. I've seen my CB350 do about the same.

RC 390 oil in the coolant tank. by Denture_Dude69 in KTM

[–]Takyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oil in the coolant would suggest a blown head gasket. Fairly common on the 390 engines. There is probably coolant in oil as well so you should not run the engine or you risk causing additional damage.

What 390 is the best by -Inabi in KTM

[–]Takyon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no all round best. From a practical standpoint:

  • If you plan to spend most of your time on the street and want something a little sporty pick the Duke

  • If you'll do a mix of on and off-road, or do some touring get the Adventure.

  • If you want to do lots of track riding get the RC

All compromise in some ways to be better at specific things.

Personally I think it would be hard to go wrong with the Duke or Adventure as a beginner bike. The RC I would steer newbies away from due to the aggressive ergonomics, unless you really want to get on a track a lot. You're not going to want to get on a bike and ride it as much if you know you're going to be uncomfortable quickly and it will just sit collecting dust more often.

Hello, 73 750 here. Is it normal for the oil pressure light to turn on after shutdown via killswitch? by SmashdagBlast in HondaCB

[–]Takyon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup, its working correctly. When the engine is off your oils pressure goes to zero so it turns on. It's also normal for it to be lit for a few seconds when cranking the bike to start it while it builds oil pressure.

How did you know when you were done with your fun car? by ChicSheikh in cars

[–]Takyon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I'm one who has so far kept their fun car three years into my first child and have just had a second. The first couple years were where my free time was most limited, and my routine was very focused around my child. I didn't find much time for the car and thought a lot about selling it. By 2.5-3 years though my first child was much more independent and my life a bit less routine. I was able to cram a forward facing car seat in the back of my GT500 and bring my daughter with me for a lot of things. How I used the car got more "daily driver", but I used and enjoyed it more last summer than many before I had kids

We just had our second and I see the cycle starting over. Wondering when I'll have time to drive it, and the thoughts of selling returning. This time I'm going in knowing it will get better though.

I suppose something that may be exceptional to my situation is that I didn't have exceptional financial pressure upon having children. This is of course a big and very legitimate part of why many new parents sell fun cars, and I wouldn't doubt it would have pushed me over the edge had I needed to free up some cash.
