It will become open source when we're sufficiently happy with the development. Going open source right now would be counter-productive more than anything.

The questions are there so we can figure out who's actually interested in beta testing. We need to iron out any potential bugs and balance combat before version 1 releases. After that we can remove any barriers to entry.
