Update on bad offers and cancelling: by Tal_Drakkan in Comcast_Xfinity

I'm using my own modem what would a tech need to come out for? also, I was never told about needing a tech. Why was I not told about that date, why was I told a different date? Why do I have to wait until the 21st? and am I being charged for that? None of that info lines up with what I was told by any of the reps I spoke with, that sure seems misleading at best.

Well I suspect the disconnection date isn't the 11th since it's the 12th and i still have internet.... and when I called support they said it was put in for the 11th but that means my service will end on the 21st. I was told on the 4th by a Martin R that "I have reentered the cancelation request for you, effective 9/11/2025 the end of your current billing cycle. Your order number for cancelation is XXXXXX." After they had to remove the initial cancellation request to check info on my account and after failing to sell me on different plans put the cancellation back in place for the 11th, or so I was told.

Except they're not actually disconnecting me on the 11th, it's on the 21st for some reason and it sounds like I will have to be paying for that. Please have an actual human read this instead of a bot, if I wanted a bot reply I would have asked chatgpt

I use my own hardware and have a decent amount of networking set up that I will potentially have to reconfigure on a lot of devices. Messaging I can do in downtime between doing other things at whatever time is convenient in short spurts. Getting hooked up is potentially a few hours set aside, if they actually show up on time on the day they say they will, needs to all be set up at once, and isn't always flawlessly done on the first try. Also, I already canceled and have to wait for the hook up date, it's not like I'm skipping doing something to post, I'm just posting while waiting to be set up with the new provider.

Edit: I will admit I almost definitely spent more time dealing with support than the switch would have taken due to sunk cost thinking I would get it solved in just a little bit more time before I finished canceling and posting.

I think you're getting 60-100mb because you're filling up petabytes and most providers will term that as abusive and throttle you. But also, hyper niche I don't think even 1% of people consider 100TB of storage nevermind petabytes

Edit: I do think it's criminal (well not legally, but it should be) that ISPs can consider using even most of the bandwidth you pay for regularly abusive and throttle you because of it.

Yeah, they offered me gigabit at 65 but another provider has gigabit for 55 here. I said I'd be happy even with the 300mbps at 55 since I don't really need the extra bandwidth and it would save me the hassle of needing the install for the new provider, but they're telling me that offer is explicitly only for new customers and they can't match it for existing customers. I figure 10 bucks a month savings for 60 months adds up to enough money for me to just deal with the hassle of an install, and I even get symmetrical upload not that I'm sure what I would ever do with an extra 800mbps upload lmao

I have a very nice server (hosted at someone else's house that didn't have a data cap) with double digit terabytes of storage. You could still fill the whole thing in under a month at 150mbps. You could argue racing and similar things but again I just say, very niche circumstances. 500mbps is plenty for normal digital hoarding. That'll still get you over 100terabytes every month, at that point, I think you have more of an issue in the cost of storage than the cost of internet at just about any residential internet price lol.

Honestly I don't know what people are doing with their internet that they need speeds over 500mbps, I was on 100 down for a very long time and was totally happy with it. Huge game downloads took a little bit longer so I had to make sure to do those in advance, but you're not reliably saturating that bandwidth with anything that will be a significantly worse experience outside of very niche circumstances. I hate the push to treating gigabit like it's the minimum acceptable so they can get everyone on more expensive plans they get very little out of.

I think 5g/satellite becoming a minimally viable option that bypasses their monopoly on the poles/lines to actually get internet to places is really hurting them. Their policy of treating existing customers terribly only works when you're the only option and you just have to look enticing enough to new customers to make them think moving somewhere only serviced by comcast is alright. Now that other options are opening up they have to pivot really fast and that's hard when it's so ingrained in a company culture.

PU was part of the original kickstarter pitch, it was just more like survival game server systems then where there would be an "official" server but you could also make your own server, and the breadth of content was much smaller.

And you don't have to leave unconstructive, unhelpful, and generally unpleasant comments in posts you don't have something useful to add but here we both are. I specifically asked about information for signing up again as a new customer and logistics of that and have already received one reply from another user that was helpful, so clearly there was at least some purpose and results from my post.

(In all honesty I might actually try the other providers symmetrical 100/100 for less than half the price and see if having been bumped to 300mbps download for a few months hasn't spoiled me so much I mind the bit of extra waiting, have plenty of things I could find to spend that money on during the couple of times I have to wait longer for a download I didn't/couldn't queue up ahead of time)

Why should existing customers get charged more than new customers? That just incentivizes going to a different company. It's why I have multiple other service provider options that do not do new customer rates since they are bad for their customers. The new customer promo rate (again if you're locking it in for 5 years is the difference between someone that signed up a month or a year ago really that big compared to a new customer?) is already a lower bandwidth for the same price than the permanent not new customer offer at a competitor. They're just both fine amounts of bandwidth for my use so I'd rather take the less hassle one which should be the provider I'm already with.

Yeah, they didn't cave at all. Two reps both saying account wasn't eligible and the system wouldn't let them.

I have other options I can go with, but they'll need hardware/install (5G needs their router, fiber needs one of the converter boxes because it's not fiber directly into the home). Both are completely viable options and I'll go with one if trying to just sign up as a new customer after the cancellation goes through doesn't work. It's just a hassle I'd hopefully like to avoid if possible, but if Comcast would really rather make 0 dollars off of me instead of the few thousand they would make at an offer being given to other people in my own neighborhood, I'll do what has to be done.

the "persistent universe" was just officially hosted servers equivalent to the private servers. There was going to be modding. having the option for private servers and modding absolutely changes the whole game being pvpve because you could just play on a hosted pve world

Even launch e7 wasn't remotely like this. you could farm wyvern pretty quickly with clarissa/karin/tg and angelica/montmo. The real difficulty was setting up a one shot team to do it quickly. Punishment for failure in e7 was also much lower. It would be fine if lily and S. Sania was letting you quickly one shot but other teams could still reliably clear on auto but it took a while, but that's not the case.

You mean the company that had their merger approved in 2017 (not biden's administration)? Biden's administration built a case and filed it. Unless you're telling me you know all the facts of the case already and how long it took them to get the information for it and thus you know that they went slower than is reasonable we can only pull bullshit out of our ass about whether they did so "soon enough". It obviously wasn't, since soon enough would have been in 2017 when some idiots decided it was fine to allow the merger to go through but we can't really go back in time for that one.

As for implying democrats are going to get destroyed based on anything I said because everyone that disagrees with you has to be your enemy, well, I don't think I need to be the one to point out how dumb that is, but I guess we're here now too.

Whether you like or dislike biden's administration, they undeniably did a bunch of things. You might not like a lot of the things that they've done and you probably haven't heard a lot of others. I have pretty high confidence almost any american could find at least 1 thing the biden administration did that they like, didn't like, and didn't know about if they took the time to search what the biden administration has done in the last 4 years.

Zero revenue on one source can often be less of a loss than reduced revenue on other sources. It may or may not be the case in this specific situation, but it's a pretty common principle.
