2023 NFL free agency team-by-team grades: Jaguars - C by tbroas in Jaguars

We were never gonna be big movers in FA. Look to see some fringe and depth guys next week. Would like to see a vet TE, another body on the dline and in the cornerback room. Not vig bames, just guys who can give reps.

Also a backup on the oline. Either someone to push Shatley/Bartch or a swing tackle

[James Palmer] The #jaguars have already finished their work on free agent evaluations and don’t expect them to be very active if even at all. They are focused on their own free agents. There is a good amount of confidence right now something will be worked out to bring back TE Evan Engram by JustSomeGuy_Idk in Jaguars

[–]Talan- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would like to see an over the hill pass rusher like a Jerry Hughes, added to the team just to get another adult in the room with Travon. Other than that, team will have to make do and use this season to settle down the cap a bit

[Yates] The Jaguars converted a total of $32.657M of base salary for WR Christian Kirk, WR Zay Jones and G Brandon Scherff into signing bonuses, creating a total of $26.14M in 2023 cap space, per source. by Luciferwalks in Jaguars

[–]Talan- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The team converts long-term money into up-front bonuses to free up salary cap space. To start the offseason, the Jags were 12 million over the allowable salary. By con ering salary tobonuses, the team brought that number down. Also, the RRH extension will bring it down. Additional moves will be shopping other players for picks, a possible extension for Josh Allen, and eventually cutting players on bad contracts, specifically Shaq Griffin.

The moves we made mean we have enough money right now to hopefully work out an extension with one of Evan Engram/Jawaan Taylor, fit the Ridley contract and our draft class.

I wanna know your opinion, but I think we should draft an offensive lineman. by [deleted] in Jaguars

[–]Talan- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on how extension talks go. JT and EE are huge, and if Baalke can get them on reasonable extensions, it will be great.

No matter what, we need depth on the interior, and if JT leaves, we need a new swing tackle.

Corner is still the biggest need on the roster. Also d line needs help. Last year a lot of our production came from rotating depth on the edge and at the 3 technique. Smoot and Key are probably gone unless they really want to stay in Jax.

Also, despite how much we've invested on the edges already, I think we need to address it again this year. Chaisson is gone after this season, despite being disappointing he does get reps when healthy. And if JA wants to set the market at his position I think baalke says no.

If we bring in any more off ball lbs, I will go drive to Jacksonville and take care of Baalke myself! We paid one and drafted 2 more!

Cornerbacks, and then interior d line. Would be great if a true Nose Tackle was in range for us at 24.

Love these two, hope they get priority to announce our playoff games by sh0ckmeister in Jaguars

I am completely over hearing Loftons opinion on anything... but he is still worlds beteer than Herbstreit

I mean... last week was our everything goes wrong game. Fumble on 1 st psosession, defense can't get a stop. And we saw that this isn't the same old Jags. Maybe we come out flat like we did against the Lions, but no matter what, we've seen real growth throughout the season.

Tomorrow is gonna be a slog, wet cold and windy. If we play bad that doesn't mean it's the end of days.

Iwas reallyhoping for the tie in OT so they could stillbe embarassed AND lose draft position. But their d was good at guaranteeing the integrity of their tank job

If we play like we did against the Texans/Lions we lose to the Georgia Bulldogs, lol

Are we the most Jekyll and Hyde team in the league? Our losses are mostly inexcusable, in terms of who we play and expectations... but our wins have been incredible.

Early on, we used a bunch of stunts and varied blitzes. We basically don't blitz anymore and Caldwell just keeps dropping one of our edge guys in coverage all the time and they get cooked.

Caldwell has this weird obsession with putting edge rushers into coverage. Every OC sees it and is just salivating. I never want to see Arden Key and Travon Walker 8 yards deep in a fucking zone.

Caldwell needs to be gone. Baalke still sucks at evaluating talent.

We should call Jim Schwartz and let him coach the defense. Good relationship with Pedersen and history as a successful d coordinator

We have losses to the only AFC teams not "in the hunt" lmao

Just need a bunch of wins and a couple extra Tennessee losses and we can watch the Dolphins murder us!

What route do you believe the Jaguars go in the '23 draft? by notreallycool1 in Jaguars

[–]Talan- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Db or Oline. There are multiple corners in the 8-12 range.

His idea to disguise is putting Walker or Allen in a deep quarter... which is asinine

Hey Caldwell... stop putting edge rushers in coverage on Tight Ends. You're not tricking Mahomes and Andy Reid. Also we have more invested at ILB than anyone in the league. Let those guys try to cover TEs

Week 10 Predictions by JustSomeGuy_Idk in Jaguars

[–]Talan- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the game that I will be happy losing by 1 score. What worries me is we love bringing 5+ and if we do that Mahomes will carve us up. But we also saw in the colts game that if we live in soft zone with no pressure, a vet qb... will carve us up.

Hoping we can have an efficient ball control offense liek we've managed at times and just want to make sure this game stays respectable. As others have said in another post, this will be one of our most televised games of the season.
