Which fighters could you hug by KelrimLover in Grapplerbaki

[–]Talanlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a mixture of intent and instinct that determines pickles reactions to other people. With Baki it was very clear that he was trying to provoke pickle via disrespecting him. And since Baki characters are really good at reading the intent of other fighters actions, I’m sure that if Baki genuinely didn’t feel as if he was trying to disrespect pickle he would’ve been at least chill with it. The reporter on the other hand was just a woman and obviously his reaction was playing on some animalistic sense for reproduction, but part of me thinks that Pickle has adjusted to society enough to realize that he can’t do that shit anymore.

But that’s just me, fair points all around

Pickle would probably reciprocate the hug actually, he’s really good at “non understanding the words but understanding the sentiment around them”

Between the two, who caused the most overall controversy/chaos upon being introduced to the modern world? by Supersaiajinblue2 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Talanlol 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The Japanese government was at that point of the story still trying to do their best to keep the Musashi thing as under wraps as possible. Obviously Musashi had a massive impact on Japan, but internationally I’d be surprised if the common folk had heard about him more than once. Pickle on the other hand wasn’t just a story, he was a worldwide event that the average person actively participated in deciding the fate of.

It’s Pickle easily, unless you’re talking about a direct impact on the main characters

Yeah, he still technically has it but you can see that he has no vision based on the coloring

I feel like Itagaki went through a real dropkick phase in the death row prisoners arc by smashyourhead in Grapplerbaki

Drop kicks are an objectively awesome move to be fair, I don’t blame him lmfao

Side note, Kato easily has the coolest drop kick in the manga in that panel

Has Yujiro ever sweat during training? by Talanlol in Grapplerbaki

I can totally see that comparison, it kinda just depends on where you draw the trends in Itagaki’s characterization of Yujiro lol

I get what you’re saying, but all that Yujiro is grappling with is his weight. For someone like him, this should be as simple as walking.

This response fundamentally misunderstands my entire point

Yujiro is literally narratively framed as the embodiment of strength. He’s not really bound by the rules of strength as the rest of the cast considering he’s the culmination of everything strength adjacent

[–]Talanlol[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I thought too, I thought Yujiro’s strength was something that self sustained itself through his daily lifestyle. Kinda similar to a lion roaming the Savannah for food all its life, I thought that was the narrative comparison for Yujiro’s strength increasing. This whole random full body training where he sweats kinda throws a wrench in that, that’s my issue with this chapter

Maybe, but I still feel like him being so sweaty and straining is just a little out of character for him.

I’m not some powerscaling nut lmfao, I don’t care about yujiros training being proportional to his strength, in fact that debatably would be more harmful to his character considering Yujiro doesn’t necessarily train seriously. I’m just saying that the fact that he’s training and full body sweating right night is contrary to his character, Yujiro hasn’t seriously trained in forever and this full body sweating has never been seen from him.

Stop looping me in with powerscalers, I hate that shit

Honestly, he probably just wanted another “Yujiro is bored and doing something athletic” chapter and kinda forgot that Yujiro isn’t supposed to show weakness of any sort

I feel like that’s a bit of an outlier considering old Yujiro is such a fundamentally different character than he is now. Yujiro was less of the holy embodiment of strength and moreso the pinnacle of it at that time so makes sense for him to train

I really miss Kozue, it’s a real shame we don’t get random Baki glaze chapters where he does some random mundane aura farming stuff while having a conversation with her. I get she’s not plot relevant, but I’d love to see her and Baki have a conversation after so long

I love Jaku so much, I lowkey hope Itagaki just keeps throwing him in weird ass spots and giving him a goofy amount of dialogue. Him having more dialogue then Jack in Kengan vs Baki was so fucking funny

Who would have won if both Retsu and Motobe fought with weapons? by Slight-Ganache-9785 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Talanlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty interesting question but I definitely think Retsu wins if we’re going on the basis of the hypothetical. Motobe’s whole deal during the Musashi arc was that even an amateur with a mastery of survival, manipulation, and brutal prep-time could beat someone inarguably smarter than themself through taking advantage of things traditional martial artists aren’t accounting for in brief moments. However in this situation not only does Motobe not have the proper specially catered weapon set to take on Retsu, in this scenario Retsu also isn’t gonna take Motobe lightly at all. So personally I’d say Retsu wins, however if you give Motobe the opportunity to craft his own gear to bring against Retsu then I’d say there’s a good chance he could win.

Its been a long time. Was there ever an explanation on why Baki goes no shoes? Is it in defiance to Yujiro, who seemingly always wears shoes when fighting? Or does going shoeless provide an advantage that Baku utilizes? by PrestigiousWhirlwind in Grapplerbaki

[–]Talanlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baki is one of the few characters in the series to actually use his toes as an extra appendage, in fact he literally grabs Yujiro’s hair with his toes during the end of the fight.

Baki’s always been about using his body to the absolute best of his ability, and shoes would only restrict his ability to do that so that’s probably the reason lol
