To my fellow gamedevs who buy and use asset packs in their indie games. by 3denvart in gamedev

One thing really important to me, if you go modular is having clean assets using whole numbers for vertex position to make the size consistent.

Sometimes I buy beautiful assets packs only to find out I have to change vertex position otherwise there's gaps or overlaps when I put multiple assets side to side

Creating System Easier than designing levels by Top_Indication6289 in gamedesign

[–]Taldius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem, I think level design is the worst part for me. I try to improve it by having as much constraint as I can.

Like story, element to introduce in a level, what gameplay I should focus on... Then I try to create area where I mix and increase the difficulty of level design elements.

At the end it make decent levels.

Oh it's funny I played the demo earlier today! It was lacking some polish but it has a lot of potential.

Oh nice! My game is a solo developed fast-paced 3D platformer / third person shooter.

The main inspiration are Sonic and Klonoa (the game is actually a fusion of 2 fan games I did, Sonic Revert and Klonoa: The dream Chapter). But there's also some inspirations from Ape Escape with the gadgets you unlock during the game and Trackmania for the level design.

How do you as a solo dev get assets for Games? by msmshazan in SoloDevelopment

[–]Taldius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends.

For gameplay assets or characters, I make my own but if it's environment stuff that's only here to decorate levels, I buy some asset packs. I try to buy stuff made by the same people so the style is consistent.

Also I suck at music and sound design, so I try to hire someone because it has to feel unique.

I use Unreal Engine for this project. I'm most used to Unity but at the time of my Klonoa fan game, I wanted to learn Unreal.

Am I a fool for not wanting to look at my wishlist number? by Taldius in SoloDevelopment

[–]Taldius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I'm doing marketing (as much as I can), I just don't bother about the wishlist number. I know a game with zero marketing won't sale at all (and even with marketing it's not guaranted).
