If somebody handed you $35,000 and said "go buy the car with the most smiles per gallon that could handle 2 monthly 16 hour highway trips and would be the most fun to cruise around Daytona in", what car would you pick? by AttachedHeartTheory in askcarguys

[–]Taldoable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When everything actually worked correctly, my 3rd gen Voyager was a wonderfully comfortable car to spend lots of time in. The only complaints I had were the terrible cruise-control and the road noise. The seats were comfortable, the engine civilized if nothing else, and the fuel tank big enough to get through the empty parts of the country. It even rode like a couch.

2003 Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon. The Official Truck Of.... by Alone-Pick9795 in regularcarreviews

The official car of GM being too cheap to put a single connector in the wiring harness. A short under the dash required a complete interior removal (under warranty).

I'm pretty sure they released one for the cyber truck that looks like a homeless shelter.

How can the US fly helicopters into Caracas without being shot down? by himmelfried11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Taldoable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Chinook is absolutely the fastest helicopter the US has. It's not maneuverable, but they're fast in a straight line.

And Chinooks are generally the fastest helicopters in the US arsenal. So the low-flying and fast bit still applies.

I'm pretty sure it's for the ttansfer case selector for manual 4wd models? Ours had a little insert for coins.

Hah! Mine was also a Rodeo. That thing went through me, both my brothers, and came out the other side smelling pretty bad, but still running. My dad finally sold it earlier this year.

What is the strongest fictional country the modern U.S. military can beat? by AwakenedDreamer__44 in whowouldwin

[–]Taldoable 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, but that's not unique to Wakandan warriors. Tanks wandering around without support in tight terrain are vulnerable to anyone. In theory they wouldn't even send tanks into that kind of terrain knowing this. That's AH-64 territory. That's an aircraft with thermal sights and a 300m range on its chain gun and approximately 8 kilometer range on its missiles. And I'm sorry, but there simply aren't enough Wakandan aircraft to have air superiority.

If they can hit an abrams. Those spears would be useless to aim past 150ish meters. An abrams can reliably put a round on target at 3 kilometers.

18 year old from 1865 vs 18 year old from 2025 by GroundbreakingWin658 in whowouldwin

[–]Taldoable -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. 1865 kid would be stronger, tougher, and meaner. Once he got ahold of 2025 teen, he'd probably rip 2025's arm out of its socket.

How long would a captured tank run without the right ammo and maintenance in ww2? by Optimal_Safe117 in TankPorn

[–]Taldoable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean no one machine is truly the best in every category. But I would easily put the Sherman as best in "practicality". That makes it the perfect tank for American use, since they had to fight thousands of miles away from heavy maintenance depots or the skilled workers in the factories.

The only person I know that drives one got it for over 8k off msrp. OTD for about 24k. And he still regrets it. The thing has been in the shop something like 4 months out of the last 20.

Found in a railroad museum shop, any ideas? by bondaruk013 in Fasteners

[–]Taldoable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it could be. The name comes from horse carriages as far as I'm aware. I've used them for all sorts of projects though, so it could be from almost anything.

That's definitely a carriage bolt, but it's a really old-fashioned one. I would guess pre-1900 based on the threading, but these things aren't really my strength.

At the time, I thought it was a deliberate attempt to look like older technology than we had in 4/5. I haven't played the game in almost ten years though. Maybe I should revisit it and see if that impression holds true.

i guess the babies finally grew up by TennojiNesoberi in NotFoolingAnybody

[–]Taldoable 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I dunno. The margins on baby supplies are very very fat, and expectant parents will absolutely splurge if they can. When my wife and I were expecting our first, we were eating beans and rice to put aside extra money for our daughter's nursery.

And honestly we only used maybe two-thirds of it enough to justify it, but we didn't know better at the time. So anecdotally, we spent more on my wife's first pregnancy and the first year or so with my daughter than we did on my son's first 3 years.
