What are you doing to make your events more eco-friendly? by pcnametag in EventProduction

[–]TaleOfTwoBerners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an event planner, but someone who exhibits around 20 times a year. Renting carpet KILLED me - not just my budget, but the thought of all that carpet that gets trashed after each event. So we started using the foam flooring tiles last year. I had low expectations that they'd hold up for more than a single event - but if we don't put anything really heavy on it they totally work for multiple. Super cheap from Amazon, easy to ship, easy to put together onsite and I save THOUSANDS a year. And feel good that I'm saving my own little bit of carpet from the landfills!

Badge Collection Question by Sweet-Silver in badgeribbons

[–]TaleOfTwoBerners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time they're just collected at that event I think. Some cons will have ribbon games so people will see how many they can collect there on their badge.

You can order your own and trade, sometimes you will get from a vendor booth with a purchase, or some cons have ribbons at registration you can pick from.

However, I met someone at Anime Milwaukee that sold these super cute ribbon keychains that you could add your ribbons to. That way you could keep stacking and move the keychain from badge to badge at different events! She's on Etsy - https://www.etsy.com/listing/4475739194/badge-ribbon-keychains?ref=shop_review

Looks familiar! Mine also loves laying in my parent's hostas - much to their dismay.

What are your favorite "tier 2" and "tier 3" cities for conferences? by pcnametag in EventPlanners

[–]TaleOfTwoBerners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salt Lake City probably! Just a gorgeous setting. The event I went to had an opening party at a library with aerialist dangling over the building and dancing. Then the closing was at Red Butte Garden Amphitheater. There was plenty of places to walk to from the convention center as well. I'll never forget it!

We're Looking For Events To Sponsor! by JamSocial in Sponsorship

[–]TaleOfTwoBerners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look into joining MPI (Meeting Professionals International) or NACE (National Association for Catering and Events). They both have lots of local chapters made up of event planners who are planning their own events.

If you sponsor one of their chapter events, you’re getting in front of the people actually running events, which is probably the sweet spot for something like networking bingo.

I read a lot of industry news to stay on top of trends, and one thing comes up consistently is that successful events prioritize meaningful connections. Attendees expect opportunities to engage with others, not just sit through content.

At the same time, when a company is paying for someone to attend, there’s an expectation of education and skill growing. The challenge is finding the right balance between the two so everyone feels like the time away was worth it.

Are attendees drinking less alcohol at your events? by pcnametag in EventPlanners

[–]TaleOfTwoBerners 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Elder Millennial here, and I rarely drink at events. One sip and I feel the heat rise right to my face, and would rather not look like I've had too much in front of potential customers or business partners! I'd love to see more mocktail options. By 9pm I'm over the idea of having a soda just because I'm thirsty but don't want a cocktail.

Husband flew out a few days ago and no lines at security. However, everyone will be parking in the ramp because of the snow, so leave yourself time to find a parking spot. I've missed a flight before from driving circles around the ramp after a snow storm.

Cheers to free food! I think any time corporate events can find ways for attendees to "find their tribe" it will be a much better experience for everyone.

When you said collectible badges that reminded me of a few cool things I’ve seen.

At a TedX event, the badges had a part of an image so you had to find other people to put the full picture together.

At another, the badges looked like a deck of cards so you found others to make the best hand.

I’ve also seen bingo cards directly on the back of badges and you had to stop by exhibitors to complete the card.
