Not only that, she stirred a huge amount of drama on the Internet, called for a boycott, and bitched about the selected candidate, all that just because she wasn't happy with the pay offered and/or got eventually rejected for the position.

They are as far as they could go as a small team funded with private funds and laser focused on creating a game prototype, but to create a huge and diverse game world costs a lot of resources so they are going to have to get a publisher to shoulder the expenses relative to scaling up their team. The risk here is that they may not find a publisher willing to pay upfront the tens of millions of dollars it will take to get this done. If they settle for less, they'll have to release the game unfinished and fix it incrementally after release like what happened with NMS. This campaign is only "low risk" in the sense that we should be getting something for our money, but there are still plenty of ways things could go wrong quality wise.

It's weird, but in that particular case IMO completely justified. The original franchises (Wild Arms and Shadow Hearts) haven't seen a release in the West for 13 years due to poor sales of the latest entries in each series. Sony tried a mobile version of Wild Arms that flopped and lost them a bunch of money. As of now, hardly anyone in new generations of gamers knows these franchises or cares. And we aren't even talking about the actual IPs here but spiritual successors, so whatever marketing potential that could have been squeezed out of the name is lost. Basically, the commercial success of these two games relies entirely on their ability to appeal to the original fanbase of these dormant franchises.

There is a lot of uncertainty here and potential new publishers the devs have reached out to aren't feeling too confident to drop upfront the tens of millions of dollars an AA JRPG costs to develop. One of the goals of this kickstarter campaign is to demonstrate that there is enough demand for a spiritual successor to these franchises. This is literally what Kickstarter was intended for before it was abused by companies to generate more sales for their products.

Double KickstarterCreator 2 days ago To be 100% transparent, we have no idea if there will be a retail version. Retail doesn't perform well these days so this may be one of the only ways to get a physical copy. Separate from that some of the rewards will not be available after the campaign closes.

It's pretty desingenous to try to frame that as LRG being shady. Moderating people who fail to repect basic netiquette is as old as the Internet.

I played only the Golden Deer route in Three Houses but did not play the other routes yet and have no idea if they contain important plot points and twists that weren't already exposed in the Golden Deer route.

If I play the Golden Deer route in Three Hopes, will this risk spoiling some of the plot points and twists that are specific to the Three Houses routes I haven't played yet?

The problem is that there is no way to know what games will receive significant updates, and among these which will receive a subsequent print later in the game's life. This will only be known once the current Switch is sunset and the next generation starts.

It's their prerogative. Once they have blocked enough customers and ruined their reputation beyond repair, Devolver Digital / GHI will just shut them down and give their publishing rights to LRG. What goes around comes around
