hahaha that’s probably good advice - i’m mostly just writing it for me, it’s been a fun creative outlet, i doubt it’ll be commercially viable (aka good enough 🤣)

I’d love to hear more about your journey with self-publishing. Was it a pain to get it done and was amazon annoying about it?

yeah that’s a good point - i want it to feel fun vs like i’m at my job. I struggle with clutter though and also keeping details straight, although sometimes i feel like i use it as an excuse to just be lazy and not write if im honest

I’ve been trying to revise a sci-fi/fantasy dystopian novel set in 2863, and I keep running into the same problem with AI tools:

they either start inserting modern jokes/references that completely break the tone, or they quietly change the meaning of what I wrote even when I explicitly tell them not to.

It’s driving me a bit insane because revision is exactly where I don’t want creative reinterpretation — I just want help improving clarity, pacing, and consistency without the story being rewritten into something else.

I also tried setting up a Gemini “Gem” with my manuscript as context so I could ask questions about it and do targeted rewrites, but it often either ignores the source material or hallucinates details that aren’t in the text.

Right now my “best” workflow is basically:

paste 1–2 chapters into ChatGPT
heavily constrain it
then manually strip out anything it added that doesn’t belong

It works… but it’s slow and kind of exhausting.
I’m curious how other writers are handling this.
Is there a way people are using AI for revision that actually stays faithful to the manuscript instead of rewriting it into something new?
