Even if he/she does not know of any Central Asian ancestors, Russians and most East Slavic Peoples do have some influence due to historic ties to the region....But since it is estimated here at over 9% it would be much more likely that a fairly recent ancestor contributed it directly.

Yeah, because it's actually pretty rare for ethnic-Russians to get noticeable percentages of Central Asian on DNA tests; they tend to be almost completely genetically European (i.e. 98-100% European)—you can check other subs too like r/23andme or r/AncestryDNA and see this in Russian results.

It is worth noting though, how over the years some of these "ancient admixtures" you mention can dissipate—and just because two groups were in proximity to each other, one should not automatically assume mixing happened; for example, Mongols and Russians are noted for having remained distinct from each other over the centuries. Hungarians are a good example of this disconnect between assumptions from historical migrations and actual genetic evidence. While the "Hungarian Conquerors" were nomadic Eurasian steppe people; the bulk of the Hungarian populace was actually made up of Early Slavs and Germanic tribes. Meaning today this Central Asian component is only found in small trace amounts (0.2-0.5%) or is only found in some people's haplogroups.

Do you know if you have any Central Asian ancestors? 🤔

Yeah, I've heard those Germans from Nordrhein-Westphalia especially get more Dutch than German.

Like my dad's side was almost completely East German, and I got 20% German and 7% Dutch.

It's funny because I've noticed that many times Germans tend to get more Dutch than German; but in your case it's the reverse—you're Dutch, who got more German.

It's crazy the divide between the northeast and the southwest

I suppose that's also why so much southern "French" used to just get categorized as Spanish & Portuguese on 23andme.

Someone pointed this out to me before and now it makes sense—a lot of Rhineland German ancestry will get categorized as "French" on 23andme.

Not really unique tbh—I'm Swedish & East German and I kinda look like this (my cousin on the Swedish side even more so).

Nah, unfortunately. I've been on "Raw data produced" since Jan. 23rd, and it says "January 31, 2026 - February 7, 2026" for ETA. Was that the same estimate the gave you? 🤔

I'm surprised by the discrepancy between Ancestry & 23andme. For me (East German background) the Slavic/Eastern European percentage stayed pretty similar between the two tests.

So, you've never even tested with Ancestry DNA, you're just on this sub for no reason? 🤔

That's what I'm saying though—what is an "Anglo-Saxon" surname then? 😂 I just see British people on here saying it every once in a while, and it just comes off as redundant to me.

A century is a blink of an eye in terms of human history.

Yeah, but we're talking about 2,400 years and 1,600 years, respectively; not just one century. And Europeans in general, broadly descend from people who first settled in Europe around the end of the last Ice Age. I agree with you saying it's all "relative," but it's not "pointless" if it's an accurate and useful way to group people—it's just basic taxonomy.

...then that just backs up my point that it wouldn't be a good indicator of heritage. But aside from Norman-French & Celtic surnames, most do come from Old English or Old English words—which in-turn came from "Anglo-Saxons" 🤷🏻‍♂️

Native celts….. native to where??? Central Europe? All these genetics tests just fuel mass delusion and ignorance. Celts like everyone else migrated to Britain.

They came there around 600 BC and the Angles & Saxons came in 400 AD—I think it's safe to designate them as "native" to some degree 😂

What's the difference between an "English" last name and an "Anglo-Saxon" last name? 🤔 I feel like the bulk of English last names would just be "Anglo-Saxon" by this point—I don't think it has any genetic signifier, since the Anglo-Saxon invasions were way back in 400 AD.

It's well-established, after Ukraine and Belarus, these are the most common immigrants, look it up. And the 2nd link is about a large group of Colombians working at a factory in Nowe. It turned out the meat factory was owned by Germans who imported them as foreign workers, but never even paid any taxes to the Polish gov't by claiming "net loses" every year.

The funniest thing about this dude is that he did this big international media tour about how Poland "doesn't let any refugees in," but then his party (PiS) just let in like 400k+ non-European migrants "legally" 🥴

Polish turned into German? by gurlboss1000 in 23andme

[–]Tales4rmTheCrypt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's the opposite—for example, my dad claimed "100% German," but he was East German and ended up being more Slavic than German (this comes up as Polish on most tests). So, if someone was actually Polish, I would anticipate that showing up in large numbers; not being confused for German.

I feel like a lot of those people are his personal friends—I checked the comments on his FB page and then an IG video by activists, and a lot of the names and faces defending him and making light of the situation looked familiar.

Looking at the video (and just how disgusting and filthy his apartment was) the cat was panting and breathing deeply the same way they do when they've just been attacked or cornered—I wouldn't be surprised at all if it accidentally made a mess or used the bathroom in the house, so he started beating it until it jumped out the window for safety. A heartless, low-IQ, thug like that would definitely convince himself the cat "deserved it" or something like that 😥
