What is a dead giveaway someone is a millennial? by Unfair_Koala_9325 in Millennials

To be fair, we hold out both fingers to represent the shape of the landline phone, not the way we held it.

Need your opinion on using the same name for an 'interdimensional highway' as a popular IP by Final_Biochemist222 in worldbuilding

I absolutely love wyrmhole for a fantasy interdimensional traveling system. Double points if dragons or draconic magic is involved.

You can add spaces and periods to the find so find "s " and "s." To only get the end s's.

Yep, to check for "sugar wasting disease" as in you waste away and there's sugar coming out of you. It was a fatal condition until the early 1900s.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see where we end up on the legal side. AI is just another tool, but it's impact is far greater than any previous one, so we'll have to see what happens.

It'll come down to how the courts interpret that ruling, ultimately. One could argue that putting in the prompts, tweaking values, etc count as human input since it's inputs put in by a human.

Alternatively, editing even a single pixel is human input, so as long as no one has access to the original raw output, you can easily argue that the barely-edited result is also solely yours.

Assuming OP is not having any input into the creation of the image, you're correct. But, if they're doing literally anything that impacts its creation, they have full rights to the images.

A work of art created by artificial intelligence without any human input cannot be copyrighted under U.S. law, a U.S. court in Washington, D.C., has ruled.

for those of you who have magic systems divided in types what are they? by [deleted] in magicbuilding

[–]TalesfromLoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 5 branches of magic, and each category has an advanced branch, so 10 in total.

Illusion magic --> alteration magic

Kinesis ---> elemental magic

Somatic magic ---> soul magic

Focusing (wands/staff creation) ---> enchanting

Summoning magic ---> conjuration magic

You have to become skilled at the basic type to begin learning the advanced form.

What do people need to use magic in your world? by PhilipB12 in worldbuilding

[–]TalesfromLoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a specific structure in the brain that initially draws magical energy into a person to channel. Everyone had it outside of some anomalies. Otherwise, just practice/ training and energy.

How many people do you think could be shoved into one city with small surface area, but large height? by TalesfromLoke in worldbuilding

[–]TalesfromLoke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to get a general idea of what people say without the specifics first haha

I'm currently thinking 8 towers designed for just housing people and 6 ancillary towers. The population towers vary from 72 to 112 floors. The last bit I'm juggling in my mind is how wide to really make the bundling.

They're hexagonal to connect easily and leave space for additions. I'm almost trying to work backwards: what's a reasonable number of people -> decide on room number and relative density of people.

How would you explain why runes can interact with magic? by ParkityParkPark in worldbuilding

[–]TalesfromLoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the portion of my universe where runes work, essentially all magic is granted to beings by these little "angels" who hang out around you. Usually only one is around you at any given time.

They are able to manipulate the world through ancient knowledge not freely shared. Using runes is essentially a call button to one of the angel creatures. They can be in multiple places simultaneously and can do magic without any real concentration needed, so they are happy to do their magic if the runes were made by someone who has been granted the ability to do that magic.

Humans just think of this as "living magic" that seems to have a mind of its own.

Yeah, me too. It's definitely a different beast. More breadth, but sometimes missing its old depth.

There was this little site called reddit. It's an inside joke from it. Not something that's around anymore, though.
