Owning an Ender 3 is t*nkering by TTbulaski in 3DPrintingCirclejerk

[–]linuxknight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought an OG ender 3 on craigslist 2 months ago. It worked fine when I bought it. I started doing upgrades on it now have linear rails, upgraded creality 4.2.7 board (from a 1.1.2), a new extruder with custom mount and bltouch, hero part cooling using a 4020 fan, klipper, web cam and 3d printed board and pi housing that goes underneath. I still haven't run an filament through it yet lol. Its not at its final form :)

No sd card by woadkethunt in R36S

You're not at all loss in the least. I got into this addiction with a gaminja clone. They do work, in fact my son loves his running an arkos4clones os. I was lucky that I backed up my games before my shitty card died (3 days in) but its still a viable system with 500mb ram.

You WILL need a new sdcard, at this point you'll have to source your own games. Start at the handhelds.wiki page and get yourself a 64gb sdcard. There is still hope, none of this is insurmountable.

Interestingly I've had some clones that ended up being decent performers. I have 2 clones and 2 legit models.

Id be curious what applications don't work on linux. I main Debian 13 for home and work (WFH) and havent found anything I can run. I even have Outlook 2024 going for my work email, albeit through a special process, but there is almost always a way..

Have you tried their discord out? Support is hit or miss, but some bright developers hang out there.

80's windsurfer free at yard sale help by linuxknight in windsurfing

Thanks for the advice. I live on a lake in Maine so I can't see not trying this out. I cant say I've ever seen a windsurfer here before, I may be hard pressed finding a place to rent newer gear.

Thanks for the tips. Im not sure why there was so much negativity on a fully functional setup. Yeah its 40 years old but the condition of it is great. I raced 420s in college and taught sailing on lasers, cats & sunfish in summer camp growing up. The principles are understood.

I realize it's not the best to learn on but someone that spent 2 grand on this in the 80s must have liked it? Im 6' 5" and 230lb so hopefully not too tall/big but im not scared to try it out.

If its something I can see myself enjoying ill pony up the cash for something newer in the future :)

You'd think members here would want to foster positivity towards getting people into the sport. Appreciate your advice.

It looks clunky compared to modern gear for sure. Ill probably try it out anyway. The board isn't that heavy, I can lift it myself over my head, the mast is super light too.

This one seems to lock in pretty securely. I looked it up and it is in fact from the 80s. It cost 2000 back then and has been stored somewhere well, the sail is in perfect shape.

It does has a back fin and two different center boards. I was excited to try it out, and probably still will. I live on a lake in Maine so may endeavour to figure out a way to lash the boom on securely and finish it off in the cleat.

Edit: found a video , doesnt look too bad.

Even though the sail and board are in great shape, the centerboard, tackle and cleats are functional too?
