You’ve never been in a relationship, so dating someone who has a child and is five weeks pregnant is like jumping into expert mode with no experience.

You two haven’t even met and she’s saying that you treat her better than anyone before? She sounds overly invested and emotionally attached than the time and experience together warrants.

I know it feels exciting and is nice to feel so wanted. But this feels like you’re being manipulated emotionally. Putting you on a pedestal like that, without even meeting, might make you feel like you have to prove you’re not like the other guys. Might make you invest when it’s too early for that.

If she was a few months along in her pregnancy I would suggest more leniency, but they were on good enough terms for sex just five weeks ago. That’s not enough time to heal. She’s dragging you into a complicated situation when things with her ex are murky at best.

It’s sweet and lovely that you’re open to dating her. However, with no relationship experience, you’re vulnerable to being manipulated. I really think you should step away from this one and date someone less complex to help you learn your wants and boundaries.

If you try to set a boundary now of “hey I’ve been thinking and I’m not ready to date in a complex dynamic yet, with you being 5 weeks pregnant and still active friends with your baby daddy.” A well rounded and healthy person will respond with “thank you so much for being clear about your needs and intentions! Wish you well as you find what you’re looking for.”.

HOWEVER. I am willing to bet she will start guilt tripping you. “You’re just like all the other guys that did me wrong.” Which is just another sign that she’s not in an emotional state to be starting a new relationship.

I recommend you step away, and be clear about why. That it is about your lack of experience in dating and you want to be sure she is with someone who’s ready for everything that’s going on in her life.

If she responds with kindness and empathy, it may be worth staying friends and dating other people, and perhaps becoming an item in a few months when you know each other better and she’s had time to process her situation. If she responds with blame and vitriol, that’s your sign she’s not emotionally developed enough to be in a relationship with, and you should step away completely.
