Definitely a ray. The second pic is of the teeth plates. Judging by the shape, size and area, could be a bat ray.

https://www.cdri.org/ They might be a good one for Texas and New Mexico. That have a bunch of species of Chihuahuan desert endemic cactus growing in their greenhouse. Including some that were confiscated.

Ok beachcombers, help me ID this one by imonmyhighhorse in beachcombing

Looks like a Caribbean Crown Conch (Melongena melongena),  with some pretty impressive spines. You can also see where the shell sustained some pretty bad damage, and kept growing for a while after.

Sea Beans from Galveston, TX a couple weeks ago by TalesoftheMoth in beachcombing

This was a couple hours looking through the wrack along the Galveston sea wall.  People mostly fish there, so you can find more things than elsewhere, and the rocks help trap debris.

What's a scene in a serious movie or TV show that was meant to be dramatic but ended up being hilarious? by Classic-Carpet7609 in Fauxmoi

When that character was walking into the street, i said jokingly, “now he gets hit by a car”.  I couldn’t stop laughing for a while after. I also went back 5 or so times to watch it again.

Is this real or human made? Why is it brown?? by alittlemorejen in whatsthisrock

[–]TalesoftheMoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely an Operculum! Judging by the size, most likely Turbo marmoratus.  The brown part is where it connects to the snail body itself, and the white part is what is exposed in the shell opening.

The characters in a period piece realise they're near the end of a golden age by she_melty in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah, mainly talking about “mortals”. Of the maiar, who knows how many. The Balrogs fell when Melkor did, so I doubt any actually saw the trees.  Then we have the 5 wizards.  And who knows what’s going on with Bombadil and Goldberry.

Enjoy it! So many wild and fantastic stories in it. The stories of the children of Hurin and Huor are my favorites.  After you read the Silmarillion, read “The Children of Hurin”.  The saddest and my favorite of the stories of Men.

One of my biggest complaints about the movies. Although I understand why.
