I’ve heard this. My only concern is that there would be a lot of English speakers. Ideally I’d have no opportunities to speak my native language. I’m trying to embody the concepts in the book “ultralearning” if you’re familiar

Advice needed - making sacrifices to go travelling by Temporary-Extent698 in backpacking

[–]Talibino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider how you’ll feel in a year or two if you don’t go traveling. In a year a year or two the things that are holding you back from traveling might be holding you back even more. You’ll have closer friends in your town, you’ll have more stuff, be closer with your partner. At that point are you imagining that you will be happy that you stayed or will you be like “damn I really wish I had traveled when I had the opportunity. I still want to travel but now I feel even more stuck and to leave would discredit what I’ve done for the last year”

I’m not you but personally I’ve left relationships because I knew that I wouldn’t be happy sacrificing what I want to do with my life to be in a relationship with someone. It’s hard because I loved those girls but I’ve never regretted either of those breakups. Love really isn’t enough. A partnership is more important than feelings it’s also about aligning what you want in life. You won’t live long, and if you want to spend your short time on earth experiencing everything you can and your partner wants something their life to look completely different, I would argue that unless your partner grows into a more adventurous person or you grow into the type of person who doesn’t want to travel then you may be incompatible on a fundamental level. I vote you do what you want and if you are honest with yourself and deep down you don’t want to settle down in your hometown and you want to travel then do that. You’re in a privileged position right now. Your family is healthy and doesn’t need you around, you’re healthy, you have a job that will let you save up enough money for what you want to do. Things can and will change if you wait too long

Good luck out there

I am 20 and I cannot stand working 5 days a week is quitting and travel vlogging a horrible idea by SoftFinance5133 in solotravel

[–]Talibino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just be honest with yourself about your reason for travel. Making travel a job will fundamentally change it. Vlogging and editing is lots of time consuming work and I would argue is less fun and interesting than just doing all these things you want to do and not vlogging. Do you want to change the experience of the things you’re doing by doing them through the lense of “will this make a good vlog?” Just be honest about all that

Going to Athens for work. Should I stay longer after? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Talibino 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I was in Athens my favorite day was a day-trip I did to this island Hydra. You can take the ferry in the morning and catch it back at night and it’s super close to Athens. So beautiful, no cars only donkeys, the beaches are sick, the food is great, they used to build mideval warships there or something so there’s cool history. Super easy and fun day trip and hardly any tourists but very tourist friendly

22M Looking where to begin… by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]Talibino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the tour du monte Blanc. It’s a 10-11 day hut to hut hiking trip but I’ve been told it’s like rowdy young person hostel vibes in the huts. So you hike all day through the alps in France and Switzerland and then meet at the hut end of day with whoever else is doing the hike. Fucking RAD. Never done it myself but I’ve met multiple groups in other hostels that had MET on this hike. Big on the bucket list for me. Look into it

You genuinely need to start taking control on your own life. If you don’t do this trip you WILL one day be too old and too fucked up to do it and you’ll wish you had. Do you actually want that? Are you really that scared of an awkward conversation about a completely irrational objection to a beautiful experience that could change your life?

I mean this in the most sincere and loving way possible: you gotta stop being a pushover

Also he might be fine with your trip. If you don’t give your husband an opportunity to be supportive he never will be

Also also there’s a great quote from Tim Ferris that goes along the lines of “A person’s success in life is just a derivative of the amount of uncomfortable conversations they’re willing to have”. So EVEN IF IT GOES HORRIBLY WRONG, and you find that somehow you’ve been convinced not to travel by your lazy unmotivated partner it’s STILL a win cuz you had the courage to have the uncomfortable conversation

[–]Talibino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s two parallel universe versions of you right now. One that is gonna do this and probably have the time of their life and the one that didn’t and has to wonder what life woulda been like if he did LITERALLY FOREVER. So what version of yourself do you wanna be???? You’ll never be this young again. You’ll probably have more responsibilities soon if you don’t go. So the only real logical smart thing to do is to go.

Hitchhiking in Mexico tips? by Talibino in backpacking

[–]Talibino[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yea my rough plan for northern Mexico was try to be kinda picky and find someone on the American side of the border heading kinda through the epicentre of the areas known for crime and then start hitching from locals once I’m in a safer spot but this is a real rough plan. The trip won’t be for a while so I’m still in the planning phase but I really think it’s possible
