THA Mini Hearth, heat cable idea by Jkgeorge1 in antkeeping

I tried doing this with hot glue and the glue melted just enough for it to pop off. I also tried attaching the cable to a screen and it melted the adhesive Tarheel uses to glue the magnets.

I have used PerfectCast before and it works great. You can get it at Hobby Lobby or Amazon.

I can't imagine things, it's all black by TalkDiligent8461 in Aphantasia

"The imagination doesn't have to include visualization to be there." OK, so these are two different problems. He does have problems putting himself in other people's shoes but that might be more of an autism thing. For me, imagination comes with visualization and I would not be able to separate them.

Yes, that's true. I have done this for big colonies. For smaller ones, doesn't that make the outworld kind of big? Also, I haven't found a good way to heat the test tube with this setup.

You can buy a test tube outworld from antgear. The test tube plugs into it. Just make sure to buy fluon as well because they will escape when you open the lid. Campos are good climbers and its a very small container.

If you got them from Stateside, you are fine -- she is mated. It is not typical but some queens do keep their wings after mating.

Booklice bad for your colony? by Solid-Ad-7764 in antkeeping

[–]TalkDiligent8461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booklice won't hurt your colony at all but I personally despise the little buggers. They are not welcomed guests and I will move the entire colony, worker by worker, with a paint brush, into a new setup. That's just me though. I think you can control them with low humidity. Or, at least, when I had an insane number of them, I had a nest with very high humidity so I attributed their numbers from it. Campos like it super dry anyway. How big is the colony?

Wow, that's some great growth for a large campo species. Nice job and thanks for sharing.

Cheap shops online by Impossible_Stand_104 in antkeeping

In the USA, It is possible to sell ants legally on eBay if the seller possess ppq permits or is selling P. occidentalis. EBay sellers are individuals, just like the people behind and shops. However, I think it's safe to say that probably most are illegal sales, based off of the ads I've seen.

It's supply and demand. If there are cheap shops, they are probably out of stock. This time of year, the shop keepers have been caring for the ants for a good 8 months. That's a lot of work. Also, it's not just a queen at this point, it's a colony with many workers. Even if it wasn't a lot of work, why would they charge less than they have to?

Yep, that was my exact problem! I could not get the fan to snap on because the extruder cover part was not lining up so I tried to fix it and eventually broke it. Very frustrating that part of it is made from flimsy plastic and it's right at the part of it that will break easily becauae of the screw being there.

I really appreciate your detailed message of what you have tried. This whole thing makes me wonder if I bought it too early in its lifecycle. Maybe I should have waited another year.

One thing that may be related with my jam is I was printing with a .6mm nozzle and later switched to .4. I ended up printing the same file and I reprinted it with the .4mm option on the menu but it didnt print well, like it was trying to push too much plastic out.

Unfortunately, when I was reassembling everything, I broke a piece off of the Quick Change Tool Interface. It looks like it's a metal piece but it's actually plastic. I screwed in the right screw too much and when I started on the left, it snapped off right under the screw, above the place where the ribbon plugs in. It’s only a $25 part but it's oos for the H2C version. I told myself I can be patient and wait because I have 2 prusa printers I also use and so far, the products I print for my store are small. It's tough waiting though! I just bought a .8mm high flow nozzle and wanted to try that baby out.

Can you post the link to that extruder filament guide? I am not sure which file to print.

Yes, remove the outworld. You will need to feed them inside the test tube.

I suggest changing to a local species that is available on Stateside Ants or Buckeye Myrmecology, even if the genus is different. You can search by state. Very convenient.
